With the race for the U.S. Senate in the primary runoff stage between former Auburn head football coach Tommy Tuberville and former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions underway, how to handle that dilemma could be a focal point in the campaign. At the latter stages of the primary, Sessions and U.S. Rep. I traveled all over the country with him. I was a leader in his transition team. I introduced him at rallies in every corner of this country. I was the first senator to endorse him. … I was the closest member of the House or Senate to the Trump campaign. So, I just couldn’t do it, lawfully or ethically — I just couldn’t do that.” “I know it is frustrating to the president,” he added. “But the bottom line is that even though they took an extra-long time and they turned over every rock three times it seemed like — he was cleared. The impeachment charges that came forward didn’t even mention Russia and collusion. I was being investigated, too. Of course, they cleared me, too. I certainly didn’t do any collusion with anybody. It ended as I hoped, but boy it was frustrating and it took a long time. So, I understand the President’s frustration.” Sessions said despite the allegations, he felt Trump and Republicans were on a path to victory in the November general election. He did weigh in on the possibility of something like this happening to future presidents, noting he had confidence in current U.S. Attorney General William Barr and an investigation being led by Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham. “What was so bad about this — they leaked on me constantly, that I was talking to some Russian somewhere and I was plotting some scheme,” Sessions said. “I mean, it was just constant. The media was purposefully irresponsible. The investigation had begun, I guess as we now know, in August the summer before the election. I would just say, it is correct that we should not leak these kinds of investigations. They should be done, if at all, undercover or under wraps like every federal investigation is supposed to be done. It’s one of those things where the investigation for a political race is not supposed to be commenced unless you meet a sufficient predicate, basis to justify spying on a campaign. I wrote it mostly because I was fearful that conservative movement Republicans might go back the way of ‘ruling-class Republicanism,’ kind of post-Reagan, how the Republican Party was.” Kirk said, “It’s been a great experience. I’ve been overwhelmed with the support. We’ve hit number one a couple of times, so we’re very happy with that.” He then gave Yellowhammer News his thoughts on Trump’s reelectionprospects.
“I think he’s got a great shot, obviously. It’s going to be a big fight — I don’t think it’s going to be a landslide like some people are saying,” Kirk advised. The Democratic presidential primary field to face Trump in November has realistically dwindled to former Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT). “I like the matchup if it ends up being Joe Biden. I like that matchup a lot,” Kirk commented. “I’d much rather run-up against the establishment, someone who’s a crony insider than someone who has spirit and energy and enthusiasm. I know that puts me in the minority opinion, but definitely with the target audience I deal with — with younger voters — Joe Biden is a much, much harder sell for them than Bernie Sanders is.” “If Joe Biden is going to be the opposition, states are going to be tough,” he added. “They’re going to sink hundreds of millions of dollars into those . We’ve got to do whatever it takes to get this thing done.” Kirk then talked more about that younger audience Turning Point USA focuses on. The organization, which he founded in 2012 when he was 18-years-old, works to identify, educate, train and organize students to promote the principles of fiscal responsibility, free markets andlimited government.
However, socialism is continuing to gain popularity with younger generations, as evidenced by Sanders’ success in Democratic primaries, especially with younger voters. Of socialism, Kirk acknowledged, “It’s definitely on the rise.” He placed much of the blame on “our education system that is teaching hatred for our country and not teaching economics teaching young people what it actually means to be an American.” “It’s very important to be honest with young people and not promise student loan debt cancellation or free tuition,” Kirk remarked. “Instead say, ‘We’re going to give you enough flexibility and freedom that you can make your own choice — and hopefully you make good choices. And that’s going to lead you to a more fulfilling life.’ Granted, that’s a harder sell. It’s much easier to go around promising stuff to people. I wish my job was that easy, just going around and saying, ‘Yeah, I’ll forgive your loans and free medical and everyone gets to be a citizen.’ That’s not realistic. It’s not moral. And it’s not right. But it’s easy. And that’s where the left is right now.” Speaking of the left, Kirk stressed the importance of Alabamians voting out U.S. Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) in November. Kirk expressed no opinion on the Republican primary runoff between former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former Auburn University head football coach Tommy Tuberville. “I think Doug Jones has betrayed the people of Alabama,” Kirk emphasized. “I think he is one of the worst politicians in the country because he does not represent the state that elected him. I really believe that.” Kirk concluded the interview by inviting members of the public to come meet him at the book signing event on Thursday. “I’d love to have people come, I’d love to have them attend. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun. Congressman Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is coming, who’s terrific. I think that we have a great opportunity to continue to grow the movement, and I can’t wait to get back to the great state of Alabama,” Kirk said. He is no stranger to the state. Richard Shelby) U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) said Thursday in a news release that he is “pleased” with the passage of the emergency supplemental funding package he helped author that will provide funds to help fight the spread of the coronavirus and treat victims. They trained at Alabama’s Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama and flew more than 15,000 individual sorties in Europe and North Africa during World War II. Surviving members of the famed unit were in attendance on the floor of the House of Representatives for the occasion, including Lt. Colonel (Ret.) George Hardy, Lt. Colonel (Ret.) James Harvey and Lt. Colonel(Ret.) Ted Lumpkin.
Hardy, 94-years-old, is a highly decoratedretired

The vote fell only months after Alabama dropped to dead last in the nation on some of our education rankings. Public outcry seemed to signal a readiness to upset the status quo. The polls showed a close race as well. The only public survey suggested that, of those who had an opinion on the amendment, roughly half supported it while half were opposed. If there was ever a time Alabama was going to take a chance on a new system, it was going to be on March 3rd. Come election night, however, it was clear that giving up the ability to vote on their school board members was too high a hurdle for the majority of Alabama voters to jump. A part of me envies the idealism that the majority of Alabama displayed in this vote. Voting “NO” suggests the belief that voters, not those in Montgomery, are best equipped to decide who runs and operates their government. And, if I am to be completely honest, in a more perfect world I’d be voting “NO” right there withthem.
I find it wise, however, to test the logical end of that belief. If indeed voters are best equipped to directly decide who runs and operates their government, then shouldn’t every government position be an elected position? Shouldn’t we have elections for all 92,000state employees?
This is, of course, a ridiculous proposition. We all acknowledge that electing 92,000 people ignores the reality that voters have better things to do with their time than scour the job descriptions and candidate profiles of that many positions. The truth is that, for each one of us, our idealism ends somewhere. Sure, there may be someone out there who believes we should elect all our government employees. The majority of us, however, draw a line somewhere between the full direct democracy that is described above and a system where we elect an executive, trusting them to build a team of responsible and well-qualified office-holders. Where you draw that line, as other conservative states have demonstrated, is largely an exercise of prudence and realism, not a test of your conservativism or principles. Tennessee, Arkansas, and Oklahoma, for example, do not appoint their school board members (a point API has made ad nauseam). For another example, look at every single one of our neighboring states: not one elects their Supreme Court and Appellate Court Justices. Are all these states less conservative or principled than we are? Of course not (Trump did better in some of those states in 2016 than he did in Alabama). The difference is that they simply draw the line between prudence and idealism in a different place. Unfortunately, much of the opposition to Amendment One was simply about how conservatives should never adjust that line. To those of us who supported the amendment, our terrible education performance forced us to consider moving the line. The final decision to do so, however, was not an easy one. Taking away the vote of the people should never be done lightly, even if we were in a state that elected a dogcatcher for every 10,000 people (don’t worry, wedon’t do this).
But in the end, those of us who were proponents of the amendment believed that the reality on the ground–a flailing education system–was worth the change. Shifting that line–the line that all states have to place somewhere between all government employees being elected to only the governor being elected–a little to the right became an acceptable, and even needed, response. So why did Amendment One fail? Because 75% of voters made the determination that moving that threshold at all, even in areas where Alabama’s status quo is worse than any other state in the nation,was unacceptable.
I respectfully disagree with this determination. Even so, I am hopeful for Alabama’s future and call on those who voted “NO” to prove me wrong. Live up to your idealism. Show me that you care about your elected state school board member. Pay attention to what they’re doing. Call them when we have terrible statewide rankings. Be present. It’s a heavy lift but, as a state, we’ve said we can bear it. outside of the Supreme Court, U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) threatened Trump’s justice nominees that they would pay the price if they voted to restrict abortion access. * Schumer issued a warning to Justices Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch, saying, “You have released a whirlwind and you will pay the price! You won’t know what hit you if you go forward with these awful decisions.” After criticismsand a rebuke

AL-01 4TH PLACE FINISHER ENDORSES JERRY CARL (Jerry Carl for Congress, Wes Lambert for Congress/Facebook, YHN) Republican Jerry Carl’s campaign for Congress received an endorsement from former competitor Wes Lambert on Wednesday. Lambert, a restauranteur who lives in Spanish Fort, finished fourth place on Tuesday night in the Republican primary for Alabama’s First Congressional District Carl, a Mobile County Commissioner, placed first in the primary by a slim margin over former State Senator Bill Hightower (R-Mobile). The two men are headed to a runoff on March 31. Lambert earned 3,084 votes in the southwest Alabama district, which was good for about 3% of the vote in the primary election, according to the Secretary of State’s website.

In 2017, Trump endorsed Luther Strange, mostly likely at the behest of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY). When Strange got beat by Roy Moore, who failed to get into the teens yesterday, McConnell allegedly wanted Trump to stay out of the race. Trump did not, and Moore lost to now-Senator Doug Jones (D-AL) Maybe there is a lesson here. Maybe it is bad luck. Maybe both of these candidates were fatally flawed. Last night, Trump’s former U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville secured a slot in a run-offfor March 31.
Trump couldn’t wait to get involved. Is that an endorsement? Tommy Tuberville thinks so.So do I.
I bet Jeff Sessions thinks it is as well. Will Trump clarify? Probably. Tuberville will and should tout the lack of support from Trump to his former AG, and it probably will have an impact on this election. Tommy Tuberville is now the frontrunner, there’s no question aboutthat.
But something interesting happened on my radio show his morning: A lot of callers have a big problem with Trump’s tweet against Sessions. The majority opinion was that Trump should have sat this one out, an opinion that I share. This is Trump, however. It was surprising he didn’t weigh in duringthe primary.
This sample is hardly scientific, but it caught me a bit off-guard because talk radio callers in Alabama are about as pro-Trump as youcan get.
However, maybe it shouldn’t be surprising. Those who are mad at Sessions over his recusal are already mad at him and those, who like me, believe his recusal was OK will not hold that against Sessions. As big as a Trump endorsement would be, the bigger endorsement in this race could be the one that comes, or doesn’t come, from U.S. Representative Bradley Byrne (R-Fairhope), who received 25% of thevote.
Those voters care about this race and could be activated by Byrne’s actions or deactivated by his inaction. SHELBY HELPS ENGINEER $7.8B CORONAVIRUS FUNDING BILL, URGES QUICKPASSAGE
Alabama senior U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) announced Wednesday that he and a bipartisan group from both houses of Congress have struck a deal to spend $7.767 billion to fight the coronavirus and help treat its victims. The funds are more than triple the original request by the Trump administration, which was $2.5 billion. According to a press release, 85% of what the legislators agreed to Wednesday would be spent in the United States.356

ALABAMA EARNS TOP 10 RANKINGS IN ‘SITE SELECTION’ 2019GOVERNOR’S CUPS
(Made in Alabama/Twitter) MONTGOMERY, Alabama – Alabama’s economic development successes in 2019 earned the state a pair of Top 10 rankings in “Site Selection” magazine’s annual Governor’s Cups analysis.
Alabama ranked No. 6 among the states in projects per capita, a measurement that places smaller states on a more level playing field in the “Site Selection” analysis. The state’s per capita rankingin 2018 was 14th.

In 2018, Alabama ranked No. 19. Greg Canfield, Secretary of the Alabama Department of Commerce, said the high rankings in the closely watched “Governor’s Cups” analysis demonstrate that economic developers across the state are helping to spark job growth and attract new investment. “These rankings validate the hard work put in by Alabama’s economic development team to create meaningful opportunities for citizens in our state through job creation,” Secretary Canfieldsaid.
“The rankings also confirm that Alabama is a very attractive location for corporate decision-makers because of our pro-business policies, our dedicated workforce and our top-ranked job-training programs,” he added. This is the first year that Alabama has ranked in the Top 10 in bothcategories.

In addition, several Alabama cities and metro areas earned individual rankings from the publication. * With seven qualified projects in 2019, Cullman was tied for No. 6 among the nation’s Top Micropolitans,

* Troy and Enterprise shared a No. 31 ranking among 2019’s Top Micropolitans, with three projects each. * With 23 qualifying projects, Montgomery ranked No. 9 among Site Selection’s top-performing metro areaswith
populations between 200,000 and 1 million. * Auburn-Opelika and Florence-Muscle Shoals both ranked No. 7, with 8 projects each, among the nation’s small metros in the 2019 SiteSelection analysis.
Atlanta-based “Site Selection” has awarded the Governor’s Cup award each year since 1978 to the state with the greatest number of new and expanded corporate facilities as tracked by a proprietarydatabase.
In 2014, the magazine launched a per capita category to even the playing field for states with smaller populations. Alabama ranked No.7

WALL STREET JOURNAL, GLASSDOOR LIST BIRMINGHAM AS HOT JOB MARKET (Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport/Facebook) The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) and Glassdoor both published rankings recently that mentioned the Birmingham area of Alabama as one of the nation’s hottest job markets. WSJ did a number of calculations on America’s 53 metropolitan areas with more than 1,000,000 people, and Birmingham came in with the 12th lowest unemployment rate at 3.0%. Glassdoor.com, an online database dedicated to information about employment in America, rated Birmingham as the eighth hottest job market among the 50 largest cities in theUnited States.
