After West Brom were held by Nottingham Forest,
none of the chasers were able to make up ground on a day when only Leeds of the top seven celebrated victory, beating Bristol City 1-0.
FULHAM lost 3-0 to relegation-threatened BARNSLEY. Cauley Woodrow’s penalty came after Fulham keeper Marek Rodak brought down Jacob Brown, who again got the better of Rodak by lobbing in the Tykes’ second. Meanwhile, BRENTFORD drew 1-1 at BIRMINGHAM. Ethan Pinnock took four minutes to cancel out Lukas Jutkiewicz’s 13th-minute opener but the Bees could not find a winner. PRESTON also suffered a setback with a home defeat to MILLWALL, courtesy of Shaun Hutchinson heading in fromMurray Wallace.
CARDIFF’s push towards the play-off positions stalled when they drew 2-2 with WIGAN, for whom Kieffer Moore struck twice, his second coming from the penalty spot in the fourth minute of first-half injury time. Josh Murphy had opened the scoring for Cardiff before Kai Naismith equalised, also from the spot, but neither team could find a winner. Wigan remain third-bottom and could not capitalise on QPR mounting the comeback of the day after going two goals down to STOKE. Sam Clucas and Tyrese Campbell scored for the visitors, before the home team took control. Jordan Hugill began the revival before Eberechi Eze, Bright Osayi-Samuel and Ilias Chair got involved.to level late on.
SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY went down to 10 men after Osaze Urhoghide received his second yellow card in the 49th minute but had already fallen behind to Yakou Méïté’s strike for READING, before George Pușcaș and then Sam Baldock in injury time completed the rout. Ryan Tunnicliffe scored the only goal as LUTON won at a labouredMIDDLESBROUGH.

Leaders ROTHERHAM were denied by an AFC WIMBLEDON penalty deep into time added on in a 2-2 draw. Kwesi Appiah stepped up to grab a point that lifted the Dons further away from the bottom three. Freddie Ladapo looked to have given Rotherham the win with a close-rangefinish.
COVENTRY’s 2-0 win at a blustery SOUTHEND kept them in second as third-placed WYCOMBE won at bottom club BOLTON. IPSWICH ended their rotten run of recent results and lifted the pressure on manager Paul Lambert with a 4-1 win against BURTON in which Kayden Jackson and Alan Judge both scored twice. Ipswich lie seventh, a place behind PORTSMOUTH, who beat SHREWSBURY thanks to goals from Ellis Harrison and John Marquis. ACCRINGTON, having been 3-2 down with 14 minutes to play, eventually scored a 95th-minute winner to prevail 4-3 over LINCOLN.Quick guide

Another solid win at Fratton Park, for Pompey. There is an extraordinary ability to churn out results, without ever looking especially “good” - just very hard working, very focussed, and occasionally a little lucky. And Kenny Jackett has made some good calls: bringing in Alex Bass in goal, signing Steve Seddon from Birmingham, persevering with the once-hapless-now-excellent SeanRaggett....

Great win for QPR coming off the back of a few bad results. To come back from 0-2 down, scoring 4 when it have easily been 6 or 7, was a pleasure to watch. The Stoke fans were on top of the world singing that stupid Delilah song, the silence that followed our second goal was beautiful! When we play well I feel like we could beat anyone and score all day, we just lack the consistency, but definitely the best football I've seen at Loftus Road for sometime.Reply

No club has kept more clean sheets in all 4 divisions this year than Sunderland, who are also on a helluva run of losing 1 in 12 , yet they dont even get a mention. Strange. Which other clubs in league one get an average of 30,000 a home game and take 4000 travelling fans to away games?Reply

The top of League One is going to go down to the wire and there's currently six point between 1st and 8th place, but let's not talkabout that eh, G?
The only surprising thing about this article is that there isn't a note at the bottom, begging for alms.Reply

Well. After the third goal went in, all who sit near us in the Hammersmith End, decided that the Fulham performance today will be a new definition of awful. Then we left. That was absolutely appalling in all aspects. Rodak, who has been brilliant had a total nightmare. Hector who'd got 3 man of the match awards in a row, was abysmal. I could go on. God Only Knows how we'restill third.
Best of luck to Barnsley. Could've been more quite frankly and if we could match your team's commitment and effort, that would be nice.Reply

11,567 braving some "absolute weather" at Home Park to see a fairly fortunate Argyle take the spoils against a decent Crewe side. Luke Jephcott scored again, since coming back from his loan at Truro he's emerged as a key player. A Sarcevic penalty taking him up to 10 for the season, it *felt* important today, although we've still got 14 games to go and there's naff all between the top 4. Best of all was Porter's miss. I'm not sure this will work: https://twitter.com/KevWeir1/status/1228721239063171073?s=09Reply

I note that Garry Monk is once again quietly and efficiently destroying yet another underachieving sleeping giant. He has an unnerring skill to never do quite a bad enough job to make himself kryptonite to prospective future employers, whilst simultaneously remaining an abject failure. It's a tremendous trick, it really is. I admire him, in a way.Reply

Monk comes across as a bit of a self regarding burke. His very public, and wholly unprofessional, attack on Pep Pep Clotet did him no favours whatsoever, as did his pathetic refusal to shake hands with him after their teams met. Only one person emerged from that sorry affair with any dignity, and it certainly wasn't Garry Monk.Reply

A sodden look outwith the Football League. Storm Dennis menaced the non-league schedule today, with only three games going ahead in the fifth tier. Bottom side Chorley lost 1-0 to fellow strugglers Ebbsfleet; Notts County clung on to a playoff spot with a 1-1 draw with Woking, who despite being only three points behind are down in 11th; and Stockport moved up to 10th after beating by one goal to nil a Bromley side that's rather forgotten how to pickup points.
It was even worse in the National North, where two fixtures took place - both in the North East. Blyth went down 3-0 at home to playoff-chasing Altrincham to deepen their relegation woes, while Gateshead saw out a 0-0 stalemate against Kidderminster. The draw means that Harriers have only lost once in the last five league games, and are now well clear of relegation trouble. Gateshead, meanwhile, crept back into the top seven - at the expense of fellow northeasternside Spennymoor.
The National South saw a less disrupted matchday, with only two matches falling victim to the weather - one of which involved top side Wealdstone. The chasing pack couldn't take advantage, however, with second-placed Slough drawing 1-1 with third-placed Havant & Waterlooville. Fellow chasers Weymouth managed a 3-2 win away to Hampton & Richmond to secure their first win in three games, however, as did Bath - 1-0 winners away to Concord Rangers. At the other end, a 1-1 draw for Tonbridge Angels against bottom side Hungerford pulled them to within two points of safety after St Albans 0-0 with Oxford City, while Chippenham eased the pressure on themselves thanks to a 1-0 against a Maidstone side that went down to nine men beforehalf-time.

and a mention for the lone replay in the FA Vase that took place in midweek - Worcester and tenth-tier Atherstone played out another 1-1 draw after extra time, but the deadlock was finally broken in penalties - Atherstone going through 5-4. The quarter-finals of both the FA Vase and the FA Trophy will take place on the 29th February. Finally, the future's looking bleaker than ever for expelled Football League club Bury after their owner defaulted on the club's debt agreements just days after clearing the latest winding-up petition brought before the courts. More are sure to follow, with liquidation of the 134-year-old institution now likely. In some ways it could be the best outcome. The current entity is a broken shell, and sides like Wimbledon have shown it's possible to get back from scratch - and with a supporter-orientated ownership modelfor good measure.

_In some ways it could be the best outcome_ I agree. Best to start from scratch and get as many people on board from day one. Hereford managed it. The phoenix club would probably join the North-West Counties League which is both long-established and very well run. That was the route used by the reformed Bradford ParkAvenue club.

_ That was the route used by the reformed Bradford Park Avenue club._ Though, yes, I do realise they initially joined the West Riding County League to begin with in 1988, I wouldn't expect an "AFC Bury" to have to drop as far down the pyramid as, say, the Manchester Senior League.Reply

The funny thing is it would likely have been well received. On the rare occasions that the Guardian feature an article of substance further down the leagues, the write ups are usually excellent, attracting many comments and, presumably clicks, even from the premierleague fanboys.

Dave Watson a fine player, I saw him many times. As for yesterday, Parkinson has the side well organised and defensively we look up to the task in an increasingly competitive top 8. But we have too few shots on target. More dynamism in central midfield, please, and while I like Wyke's overall contribution, he couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.Reply

Only positive from the Riverside is that the 100 year old Luton fan, who was at the match, would have been pleased with the result. I certainly hope I am that active and look that well if I reach mycentury.
Against a team bottom of the league, with 12 straight away defeats, who have not kept an away clean sheet all season; Boro failed to even manage a shot on target. Completely and utterly unacceptable. The vultures, who were seemingly banished from the Riverside around Xmas, have started to reappear. I had hoped we had turned a corner, though seemingly we have just stumbled down yet another dead end.Reply

Stevenage are absolutely terrible. Graham Westley is a terrible manager as well as a terrible man (look up what he did when the owner of Farnborough). 10 losses in his 13 games at his 4th spell at Stevenage will send them down. I actually thought they were going to have a good season but the poor choices of managers have really addedto the pain.

Macclesfield are also waiting to see if they will have another points deduction from then having to postpone the game against Plymouth justbefore Xmas.
After Bury's collapse and the aftermath, you have to wonder how keen the EFL will be to have the ongoing crisis at Macclesfield continuinginto next season.

Birmingham hold Brentford? Slightly weird way of putting it, given we are now ten unbeaten (think that’s the second longest run of mysupporting life).
First quarter of an hour was all Blues, could have been three. Brentford scored with their first attack and from then on they were closer to scoring, although we had the bulk of the play. The shame was that the first half was the best 45 minutes of football I’ve seen this season. But the wind whipped up even more for the second half. And developed a capriciousness that made good play nearly impossible. So it became very bitty with chances coming by accident. Highlight being a re-enactment of Saving Private Ryan in the Blues box which ended up with a corner. Lowlight being a clear penalty denied us yet a-fucking-gain by the same red who denied a clear one against Preston back in November.Reply
