CORONARY ANGIOPLASTY, STENTS AND DIVING A stent is a fine wire mesh tube (2-3 millimeters in diameter, 1-2 centimeters in length) that is placed in the artery with a catheter and expanded in the narrowed area of the coronary artery after opening the narrowed area with balloon angioplasty. The stent holds the artery open and is eventually overgrown with tissue so that it becomes a COMMERCIAL DIVING; AND HOW DEEP IS DEEP? Offshore, inland and coastal commercial divers now work in conventional surface air supplied helmet gear to depths of 180 to 200 feet. Scuba diving is permitted by OSHA regulations to those depths under limited conditions. From 200 to 300 feet, diving rigs using helium and oxygen as a breathing medium are used. SNORKELING: AN ACTIVITY THAT LASTS A LIFETIME Snorkeling, on the other hand, is a skill easily mastered by anyone comfortable in the water, regardless of age. Alan Margolis, now in his nearly 70s, recently summarized his learning experience: “If you can breathe, you can snorkel.”.
