ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION The Pieniny National Park developed an Environmental Education Programme, which has been carried out since 1994. The programme is aimed at: a. visitors NATURA 2000 IN PIENINY Natura 2000 in Pieniny. Natura 2000 is a network of nature protection areas established in all EU countries The aim of the network is to assure the long-term survival of Europe's most valuable and threatened species and habitats. GEOLOGY - PIENIŃSKI PARK NARODOWY Geology. The Pieniny Mountains consist mainly of geological deposits which were formed in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. In those times the area currently occupied by the Carpathians was submerged beneath the ocean surface. In the late Triassic, strong tectonic movements caused cracking and folding of the ocean bottom. ROCK AND SCREE VEGETATION Steep-sided limestone cliffs and rocky shelves provide excellent conditions for rock and scree vegetation. These habitats support Pieniny endemics and relicts, as well as rare alpine and stenothermic plant species. The most precious of all cave findings was a boomerang made from a mammoth’s tusk, which dates back to 18 thousand years B.C. A reproduction of this boomerang is exhibited in the Pieniny National Park Headquarters in Krościenko n/D. New findings have been preserved since the turn of XV and XVI centuries including fragments of vessels FAUNA - PIENIŃSKI PARK NARODOWY Fauna. In terms of fauna, the Pieniny Mountains are the best studied area of Poland. The large number of species which occur here reflects the great variety of habitats. Pieniny NP has about 7,100 species, 25 of which were documented here for the first time. Species known or thought to occur in the Park amount to 13,000 – 15,000, constituting FEES - PIENIŃSKI PARK NARODOWY - PIENINYPN.PL In accordance with the Nature Protection Act (16th April 2004), the entrance to some parts of the Park is paid - the sightseeing spots at the top of the Three Crowns and Sokolica peaks –FOREST HABITATS

ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION The Pieniny National Park developed an Environmental Education Programme, which has been carried out since 1994. The programme is aimed at: a. visitors GEOLOGY - PIENIŃSKI PARK NARODOWY Geology. The Pieniny Mountains consist mainly of geological deposits which were formed in the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. In those times the area currently occupied by the Carpathians was submerged beneath the ocean surface. Za Sromowcami przebija je Dunajec, tworząc wśród nich kilka dużych zakrętów, którymi wije się do Szczawnicy i to jest ich część najpiękniejsza. Do rzeki spadają prostopadłe, białe wapienne skały, porosłe bujną roślinnością, a za każdym zakrętem odkrywa się coraz to nowe, coraz piękniejsze i bardziej poetycznewidoki...
