This information sheet explains what you, as a member of the public, can do. It covers how to make an application, and what PROTECTING OPEN SPACES IN WALES The Open Spaces Society has been defending paths and open spaces in Wales since 1865. We have specialist knowledge of Welsh planning laws and regularly support our members in Wales to protect the open spaces they care about. We are consulted by the Welsh Government on all applications for works on common land, and by highway authorities on all changes to the public-path network.EAST SUSSEX
We’ve been defending the open spaces people love in England and Wales since 1865. We are Britain’s oldest conservation charity and depend on public donations to keep fighting for village greens, commons and footpaths for everyone to enjoy.GREEN BELT LAND
Green Belt Land: A definition Green belts are a buffer between towns, and between town and countryside. The green belt designation is a planning tool and the aim of green belt policy is to prevent urban sprawl by keeping land permanently open; however, there is not necessarily a right of access there. There are 14 green belts in England and 1 in Wales. BLACKBUSHE AERODROME We are delighted that the High Court has quashed an inspector’s decision to remove land at Blackbushe aerodrome, Hampshire, from the register of common land. Mr Justice Holgate gave judgment1 today following a judicial review brought by Hampshire County Council, the commons registration authority, against the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Coronavirus (Covid-19) Update Your open spaces could be lost for ever – help ussave them!

As the UK’s only charity dedicated to saving open spaces, we need your help! Due to the continued spread of Covid-19, and following the latest Government advice, the society has decided that staff will work remotely from Thursday 19 March. We shall be posting a notice to this effect on our website and on our telephone answering service. We shall not therefore be responding to telephone calls, and there will be a delay in our response to voicemail messages so it will be best to contact us by email. We can also be contacted via our website at https://www.oss.org.uk/contact/. A staff member will monitor incoming post to the office on a weekly basis and deal with any matters arising including membership cheques, and the answerphonemessages.
We have not taken this decision lightly, but the safety and well-being of staff are of the utmost importance to us. We shall keep you all informed if there are any updates or changes to this. We wish you all the best in these very difficult times.Kate Ashbrook
