HOW TO MAKE BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS The clamps lightly tightened to keep the panel flush on the back until the glue sets. Note the two holes – these are for the banana jacks that are the electrical connection for the speaker. Time to layout the divers to get the best placement. HOW TO MAKE HAND SCREW CLAMPS A few passes through the thickness planer bring it down to 7/8″ thick. These are then cut to the finished length of 14″, trimmed to 2-1/4″ wide and screwed together in pairs. Each jaw is made up of two pieces that will be glued together later. For now, the screws hold them temporarily for the machining operations. HOW TO MAKE A STEEL BENCH VISE Here are all of the parts cut and ready to assemble: The vise uses a 1″ threaded rod as a lead screw and what it screws into must be strong. I’ve used two 1″ nuts, welded to two thicknesses of 1/2″ steel bar stock: This is bolted directly to the table surface. The slats are 1-1/2″ wide, so I went with a 1-3/8″ spacing to get some overlap: Again, drilling accuracy with these is critical, but they should be very close. The pins the slats pivot on are just pieces of 12 gauge steel hanger wire (for t-bar ceilings) cut to about 1″ long. HOW TO MAKE CRAFTSMAN STYLE TAPERED COLUMNS After gluing it together, 2″ nails are driven in to secure the corners and the dado is filled with glue. The cap is then set in place at the bottom of the tapered cover. EASY TO MAKE SCREWDRIVER RACK Just a simple rack to hold the screwdrivers horizontally so that the ends of the handles face outwards. This would be easy to access and use space that really can’t be used for anything else – perfect! The rack itself couldn’t be simpler – just a scrap of softwoodlong

Some rough shaping with the grinder to remove the bulk of the material at the tops of the letters and grind down the areas between the spaced letters: Then a lot of file work to further shapethe teeth.
HOW TO MAKE A BAND SAW BLADE SHARPENING JIG The band saw fence was set to put the grinding wheel centred on the blade. The fence then acts as a guide for the jig to keep it square to the blade: The results are impressive, it took roughly 10 minutes to sharpen a 120″ blade. HOW TO MAKE A TABLE SAW FENCE The plans were made for a table top that is 23 inches (584mm) from front to back, and if yours is bigger, you may want to make the fence parts longer to match. For example, if your saw is 27″ (686mm) from front to back, you can add 4″ (102mm) to the fence parts to make it longer. Before doing any assembly, I cut out all of the parts. I’ve made a few step stools over the years, but none quite as nice as this one. MAKING A WOODEN TABLE SAW With the lift disassembled, I gave all of the parts two coats of water based poly to help seal it from moisture. The poly also makes the action smoother and acts as an anti-wear layer on the moving parts. Another changes was to shorten the trunnion frames on the left side of the saw. This allows me to put a support bar for the top of the saw WOODEN TABLE SAW FENCE PLANS The fence is a snap to line up square to the table by adjusting the rail and will reliably hold that position. MAKING A WOODEN TABLE SAW Making A Wooden Table Saw. Yes! Another one. This one is a bit different in that it will be a “real” table saw that uses a real table saw arbor. The material I’ll be making it from is mostly 1/2″ Baltic birch plywood, with some 3/4″ and some solid wood mixed in. I also have a sheet of 1/2″ plastic that will be used forthe trunnions
CUTTING WOODEN THREADS The first method I tried was to wrap a 1/4″ strip of paper around the dowel in a spiral and just manually line it up with a pointer as I rotated the dowel: This is a little tricky, but seems to work well: A little shaky, but it should work well enough. With the lead in thread cut, it followed the pin to cut the rest of the thread: HOW TO MAKE BOOKSHELF SPEAKERS The clamps lightly tightened to keep the panel flush on the back until the glue sets. Note the two holes – these are for the banana jacks that are the electrical connection for the speaker. Time to layout the divers to get the best placement. HOW TO MAKE A SIMPLE DOWEL MAKER This gives three layout lines, the outer ones are 5/16″ from the centre mark. Next, the marks for the 3/8″ dowel cutter are made, at the other end of the bar. The centre mark is already in place 3/4″ from the end and the caliper is set to scribe a line 1/2″ from the end: Then another 1″ from the end. This produces two marks that are1

The middle section of the top is hinged to swing up to quickly make adjustments to the depth of cut and angle of cut. It will also allow you to quickly remove the saw, if you need it for hand-held work. The plans consist of: a materials list. a 1/2″ (13mm) sheet goods cut diagram. an overview drawing. HOW TO MAKE A SOUND BAR The house I live in now is considerably smaller than the one I had before this, in particular the living room. And while the speakers I made several years ago are not huge, they are a bit too big for the space I have now, so I decided to replace them with a sound bar mounted directly below the screen. This will free up some space and also scratches my speaker building itch. HOW TO MAKE A TENON JIG Tenon Jig Plans. After cutting out the parts for the face, I measured the width of the fence to get the size for the top: I can also measure how high the back needs to be with the top placed on the fence: Assembly starts by fastening the back with screws only to the top. I HOW TO MAKE PORCH RAILINGS Prime, caulk the seams and two coats of paint on the posts complete them. I could then get started on the railings by making all of the balusters: The balusters are just simple, straight pieces cut from used deck board, primed and painted. I used new 2×4 for the railing components. All cut to length, planed and sanded smooth before primingand
Much of the assembly done, the lead screw is HOW TO MAKE A WOODEN TREASURE BOX Connect the dots and cut it out. Assembly started on the lid: The slats for the lid are cut on one edge with a slight angle, as shown on the dimension sheet. Then it’s just to glue and pin them in place up and over the lid: Fully assembled: The box will be stained later to even out the colour. HOW TO MAKE WOODEN SHUTTERS Laying out the slat spacing on the stiles. The slats are 1-1/2″ wide, so I went with a 1-3/8″ spacing to get some overlap: Again, drilling accuracy with these is critical, but they should be very close. The pins the slats pivot on are just pieces of 12 gauge steel hanger wire (for t-bar ceilings) cut to about 1″ long.*
