CLIMATE. The general height of the land gives Zambia a more pleasant climate than that experienced in most tropical countries. There are three seasons – cool and dry from May to August, hot and dry from September to November, and warm and wet from December to April. THE FORMATION OF VICTORIA FALLS VICTORIA FALLS IN THE MAKING The falls have been receding upstream through the Batoka Gorges, eroding the sandstone-filled cracks to form the gorges, over the last 100,000 years or so. It is thought that earth movement in an earlier geological period diverted the south-easterly flowing upper Zambezi River to a general easterly direction and so initiated the PUKU RIDGE - ZAMBIA TOURISM Puku Ridge is unquestionably one of southern Africa’s most luxurious tented safari camps. That said, its location, deep inside the National Park and overlooking a wildlife-rich floodplain on the banks of the Luangwa River and its quality guiding make this appealing to serious safari aficionados; and so Puku Ridge brings a new standard of safari to the South Luangwa National Park. ZAMBIA'S PAST MISSIONARIES AND COLONISERS MISSIONARIES AND COLONISERS David Livingstone, a 27 year old Scottish doctor and ordained minister, sailed from Britain to the Cape, to work as a medical evangelist with the London Missionary Society in 1840. MOSI OA TUNYA NATIONAL PARK MOSI OA TUNYA NATIONAL PARK Bordered between Livingstone town, farm land and the Zambezi River, lies the wildlife area of Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park – Zambia’s smallest National Park. This small reserve was established in 1972 with the idea of having representative wildlife species from Zambia. LAKE TANGANYIKA ACCOMMODATION ACCOMMODATION AROUND LAKE TANGANYIKA Lake Tanganyika is the longest freshwater lake in the world and the second deepest. Its surface area spreads into Zambia, Congo DR, Burundi and Tanzania. Zambia can only claim around 7% of that surface area. It is also said that the lake holds around 18% of the world’s fresh water with THE FORMATION OF VICTORIA FALLS VICTORIA FALLS IN THE MAKING The falls have been receding upstream through the Batoka Gorges, eroding the sandstone-filled cracks to form the gorges, over the last 100,000 years or so. It is thought that earth movement in an earlier geological period diverted the south-easterly flowing upper Zambezi River to a general easterly direction and so initiated the LIUWA PLAIN COMMUNITY CAMPSITES LIUWA PLAIN COMMUNITY CAMPSITES. There are five community campsites in Liuwa and all have camp attendants and offer firewood and are open as long as the park is accessible. Katoyana, Kwale, Lyangu and Kayala provide water, cold showers and a flush toilet, but all drinking water needs to be brought with guests. LOWER ZAMBEZI NATIONAL PARK The hills which form the backdrop to the Park are covered in broadleaf woodland. Even though the Lower Zambezi National Park covers an area of 4092 square kilometers, most of the game is concentrated along the valley floor. There is an escarpment along the northern end which acts as a physical barrier to most of the Park’s animal species.LIVINGSTONE
LIVINGSTONE Named after the famous Victorian missionary explorer, Dr David Livingstone, who explored this area extensively, Livingstone Town was established in 1905.
