March 28th, 2021 By: Heather Comments: 7. After watching his sister play countless games, James has decided that he, too, wants to be a stud ballplayer. He’s suddenly a little sponge, soaking up coaching and busting his butt to improve every chance he gets. In his first game, he had the game-winning hit and the game-saving play. THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING ABOUT The Spohr Family is Heather: the wife, mom, and writer of this here blog; Mike, the husband and dad; Madeline Alice, our oldest daughter and our miracle preemie; Annabel Violet, our younger daughter and Taylor Swift-loving spitfire; and James Asher, our crazy, refrigerator-climbing preschooler.. The Spohrs Are Multiplying chronicles our adventures (mostly) in and around Los Angeles. THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING 2021 JANUARY My girl is officially 11! It was a far more mellow birthday than we’re used to around here, yet oddly familiar now that we’re almost a year into the pandemic. THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING HEATHER Heather. I am Heather: the wife, mom, and writer of this here blog. I started blogging on a whim back in 2002, just a few weeks after I started dating a new guy. I’ve blogged through cross-country moves, job changes, pregnancy, loss, and all the other things life has thrownat
THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING ANNABEL Annabel was born on the rainy Friday afternoon of January 22, 2010. Her pregnancy was very difficult, but despite all the complications she was born at a healthy six pounds, half an ounce, and was 19 inches long. We were able to bring her home from the hospital only two days after she was born, an amazing experience for us. THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING WHILE YOU WERE AT PRESCHOOL One of the hardest things about taking the Preschool pictures (besides dealing with on-the-move James!) was deciding which photo to use. I usually took 20-30 photos, and while many of them were cute, lots of them were downright hilarious. THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING FIESTA FRIDAY: VIDEO SCAVENGER HUNT 3) All members of the team must appear on camera during each task. 4) All tasks must be filmed on the same camera. 5) Never disrupt a place of business. 6) Always be polite and respectful. 7) Safety first! Jen and I came up with a printable list of tasks for a video scavenger hunt, and we also left some lines to add a task of your own. THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING 2019 AUGUST Oh my goodness, these last two weeks were nuuuuuuts. Our trip home from New York City was delayed because James got sick and wasn’t allowed to fly (he was having some breathing issues, the doctors suspect he has asthma so we are now getting that investigated). THE SPOHRS ARE MULTIPLYING 2007 NOVEMBER Hi everyone, We had a VERY rough first 36 hours with Maddie. She had a host of lung issues and we almost lost her a few times. I even checked out of the hospital on Monday night against medical advice to go see her at UCLA because things looked bad. SURFING SUNDAY 5.02
May 2nd, 2021By: HeatherComments: 0
As you all know, April is a crappy month around here. Everything about it reminds me of when Maddie died…so I decided to just “skip” April. Mentally, I went from March straight to May. Did it help? Eh, maybe a little. Twelve years later and it’s still so hard. The day-to-day living gets easier with time, but when the calendar flips to April it’s like every coping mechanism I’ve developed over the years goes out the window and I feel as raw as if it happened yesterday. The little things I do to protect myself (like changing my calendar from March directly to May) might seem silly, but I need every little mind trick to help me cope. Last month wasn’t all bad, though. Annie and James are continuing to thrive in softball and baseball. Annie hit a grand slam in a game, and James hit two home runs. I’m still managing Annie’s teams, and because Mike is still working from home, he’s been able to be an assistant coach on James’ team. The kids are in school and our county Covid numbers have been steadily declining. I am now fully vaccinated, and Mike gets his second jab this week. The best news is that because we’ll be vaccinated, we will finally get to spend time with Mike’s parents at the end of May. We haven’t seen them in a year and a half, and James is THRILLED that he’ll get to be with both sets of grandparents on his birthday. Speaking of James’ birthday, several of you have asked me if it’s time for him to choose his baseball team. The answer is YES, since he is turning eight this year, he will “officially” declare his allegiance for either the Dodgers or the Giants. For those who don’t know, when Mike and I first got married we jokingly said that our children would be old enough to choose their favorite baseball team on their eighth birthdays.
Annie chose the Dodgers three years ago, and I’m feeling pretty confident that James will do the same – the Dodgers really did me a solid by winning the World Series last year. I mean, when you have two hats in front of you, how can you resist the one with gold piping that says “WorldChampions?”
(Don’t be dismayed for Mike – the kids both root for his hometown basketball team, the Warriors, which disgusts me but I accept it.) (Also, we really don’t take any of this seriously.) My two Dodgers fans.AROUND THE ‘NET
