He spent fifteen years with the British Antarctic Survey (B.A.S.) as a dog driver, Base Commander and Field Operations Manager. The Students on Ice Alumni Council is a group of alumni working for alumni. These passionate individuals are the bridge between the alumni program and the alumni community. The Expedition Experience. As a young girl from Mexico City, Mariana had always dreamed about experiencing the true cold of the Arctic. When her dream came true in 2008, she described it as an overwhelming experience. Our expedition team will be made up of 120 international secondary and post-secondary students, and 80 staff who are polar experts, scientists, Inuit elders, artists, musicians, educators, business and industry leaders, politicians, and innovators.
