RS6 TRANSMISSION UPGRADES? WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS? So my 2003 Audi RS6 with 125,000 miles needs a new transmission, again. This will be the second one needed for this car. The last one only lasted just over four years and 60,000 miles. I'm not interested in switching to a manual. I'm also not interested in having to pay for another one in four years so I'm looking for some upgrade options. MANUAL CONVERSION THREAD I'm initiating this thread for the 6 speed manual conversion. First off, I can attest that the RS6 slushbox can be removed without pulling the motor. I've done it at a leisurely pace over the last few days with the car on stands. No lift. It wasn't fun, but it can be done. The build starts off assuming that the automatic is removed and everything else is in proper order. VIEW PROFILE: NSU RS6 Welcome to RS6.com! RS6 AFTERMARKET SUSPENSION OPTIONS With all those DRC threads lately, I looked what aftermarket offers for our cars, as it may be better solution, than continiously repair the DRC, especially if car is out of warranty. I found two options:APR Motor Sport kit which uses Öhlins dampers for $3895 and LLTEK offers full set of Bilstein coilovers for $1888. This seems very reasonable option, Bilsteins are well known for good RS6 TRANSMISSION UPGRADES? WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS? So my 2003 Audi RS6 with 125,000 miles needs a new transmission, again. This will be the second one needed for this car. The last one only lasted just over four years and 60,000 miles. I'm not interested in switching to a manual. I'm also not interested in having to pay for another one in four years so I'm looking for some upgrade options. It would be good to collect all of the info on what we know works, what modifications are required, in one thread with a sticky. To start with - my stock wheels, 255/40R18 rubber, 10mm spacers, work with no rubbing when the front fenders are rolled. If the rears were rolled as well, I think 12mm, possibly 17979 - LEFT ENGINE MOUNT SOLENOID VALVE? - RS6.COM 2,249. The 17979 basically means that you have a bad motor mount. The fluid has leaked out and and the mount collapsed and shorted out the solenoid. As for the secondary air injection, your on the right track. Check your vacuum lines and sai tubing for visible tears or leaks, but more often than not, the secondary air pump is bad. "AFTER RUN COOLANT PUMP V51" FAILURE? Long time no post. Login issues now resolved. Thanks Erik! In the last few weeks I have noticed that the familiar sound of the pump that recirculates coolant through the turbos is no longer there after shutoff. I always hear it, because I always raise the hood when I get home in the garage to let that heat dissipate more quickly. J59 LOAD REDUCTION RELAY! Hello! I have achieved greater understanding of the Bentley Manual Wire diagrams! LOL. My headlights, turn signals, wipers, and fog lights went out again. I could smell something burning when I got to work, and when I got back in the car to go home these items were out. The last time it was a short between two wires in the connector to theheadlight switch.
FOR ANYONE THINKING ABOUT REMOVING THE SAI (SECONDARY AIR I do have some good news. With the Secondary Air Injection System removed it is much easier to remove both valve covers if you need to do the gaskets and it gives a little more room overall in the engine compartment for something that only really works on cold starts and only for about the first minute or more. If your thinking about it here is the good news. "AFTER RUN COOLANT PUMP V51" FAILURE? Long time no post. Login issues now resolved. Thanks Erik!
