The British had entered Danbury and found some American military stores, stolen some GENERAL WILLIAM HEATH General William Heath. General William Heath was an American farmer who became a soldier and then political leader. Born in his ancestral family home in Roxbury, Massachusetts, he joined the Massachusetts militia and when war broke out, he was a captain of the Suffolk County militia, but by 1770, he was a colonel and its leader. Four years SLAVERY AND THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR After the War. Some of the first efforts to end slavery began during the Revolutionary War, aided by a few of the Founding Fathers. However, at the end of the war, most of the slaves returned to their former lives. There were slave-owners who realized the hypocrisy of owning slaves while fighting for their own independence and freedtheir slaves.
