Alan Wheeler of the UK’s Textile Recycling Association is advising RECLAIMING PRECIOUS METALS HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT Reclaiming precious metals hidden in plain sight. Incineration of solid waste produces millions of tonnes of waste fly ash in Europe each year. Most of it ends up in landfill, despite the significant precious metal content. A unique method developed by Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden can now help extract zinc and othermetals.

The site now includes a customer experience centre, while increasing the floor space of both the manufacturing area and offices by 50%. Alan Wheeler of the UK’s Textile Recycling Association is advising '15% OF PLASTICS SUSTAINABLE BY 2030' SAYS REPORT The report, The Sustainable Plastics Roadmap: Recycling, Bio-plastics and Alternatives, considers the adoption of conventional and advanced recycling as well as considering the implications in global regions. ‘In 2030, 15% of plastics will be sustainable, fuelled primarily by a tripling of global plastics recycling along with strong CHINA’S SCRAP DRIVE BOOST FOR RECYCLERS • RECYCLING In the longer term, China’s latest five-year plan pledges to cut domestic crude steel production capacity and boost the use of scrap-intensive electric arc furnaces which should benefit recyclers. The themes were explored during the latest Bureau of International Recycling convention which is being held online because of Covid-19. GLOBAL CONTAINER CAPACITY '12% BELOW DEMAND' • RECYCLING Global fleet capacity is an estimated 50 million teu so that means a 2% shortfall. The 10% additional required capacity mentioned earlier meant shipping lines were 12% short, some five million teu. ‘You have a serious problem on your hands,’ Hoad cautioned.
