NATIONAL RECONCILIATION WEEK Taking some time out in the shade at Fitzroy Crossing, escaping the notorious Top End heat, Richard shares a candid yarn with our team about all things Reconciliation Week and the importance of creating a ‘together space’ through organisations like Orange Sky. THE LAUNCH OF TEAM DELTA The team has already delivered some great wins to help more people doing it tough, including a focused sprint on how we can start new shifts more effectively, connecting our data sources to ensure we’re using data to better inform our decision making, and – just last week – the launch of our remote venture visiting 20 communities across South Australia, Northern Territory, WesternWESTERN SYDNEY
Orange Sky Australia launched its fifth hybrid van in Western Sydney in June, providing free laundry, showers and conversation to people doing it tough. The van was fully funded by Sydney Water, along with three years of operational costs. The van ‘Busby’ is named after Busby’s Bore, Sydney’s second water source, and was chosen by THE NEXT GENERATION OF INNOVATORS We recently spoke to Eloise, who manages all of Orange Sky’s incoming messages through our emails, website and social media accounts. From participating in The Sudsy Challenge, gifting Orange Sky merchandise, selling toys to donate the proceeds to Orange Sky or aspiring to be the next Nic and Lucas, Eloise has heard some prettycool stories.

Sunshine CoastMIKEY. Sunshine Coast. Orange Sky Australia was proud to launch its laundry van, ‘Mikey,’ in April 2017, running services all the way from Caloundra to Noosa. Prior to Mikey, volunteers on the Sunshine Coast were custodians of our first every laundry van, ‘Sudsy,’ which started operating exactly one year earlier. WHAT RECONCILIATION MEANS TO ME For me, reconciliation means acknowledging and doing our bit to right the past. It’s about coming together, getting to know one another and working alongside each other now and into the future. It’s about keeping equity in the front of our minds at all times, which means sometimes we should preference others voices over our own or step ORANGE SKY AUSTRALIA We are helping to positively connect our friends in need through free laundry, showers and conversation. HOW IT WORKS
The song, Orange Sky by Alexi Murdoch, was a huge inspiration for our co-founders, Nic and Lucas, when they first decided to build a mobile laundry van. The entire message of the song is about 'helping out your brothers and sisters', which is an important part of what we do at Orange Sky every day around Australia. FEATURE - ORANGE SKY AUSTRALIA Helen and Sophia. Each night in Australia, there are more than 8,000 people living in improvised dwellings, tents or sleeping on the street. Sadly, Helen and her daughter, Sophia are part of this statistic. Helen recently separated from her partner and has not been able to find a safe and affordable place for her and her daughter tolive.
