NMSU INTRODUCES ADDITIONAL EIGHT-WEEK SUMMER SESSION Beginning with the 2021 fall semester, New Mexico State University will be offering an additional eight-week mini-semester during the summer session making the total amount of mini-semesters offered in a calendar year six instead of five. Mini-semester courses at NMSU last a total of eight weeks and deliver the same amount of instruction offered in a standard 16-week semester. NMSU RECEIVES EMERGENCY FUNDING FROM CARES ACT DUE TO As a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, New Mexico State University received approximately $14 million in emergency funding through the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). AHWC AND WAVE COMMENT ON MENTAL HEALTH The AHWC has counselors and psychologists to assists students with crisis, mental health, personal growth and well-being issues. AHWC services are free to NMSU main campus students and are confidential. However, due to the pandemic, AHWC has moved to telehealth services. Students can speak with counselors on the phone by calling575-646-1512.
APPROVED IN-PERSON STUDY ABROAD PROGRAMS WILL BE OFFERED Approved in-person study abroad programs will be offered in the fall. Students can expect on-site study abroad to return in the winter of 2021. In response to the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in March of 2020, New Mexico State University issued an international travel suspension to last through August 5, 2021. NMSU, ELECTRONIC CAREGIVER LAUNCH PROJECT TO EVALUATE A team of public health researchers at New Mexico State University launched a demonstration project this summer in partnership with the Las Cruces-based Electronic Caregiver to evaluate the feasibility of an automated telehealth system that monitors COVID-19 symptoms. BASIC NEEDS SURVEY AIMS TO RESEARCH STUDENT RESOURCES AT At the end of March, a Basic Needs Survey went out to New Mexico State University students, staff and faculty. This survey was put into motion by a team of NMSU researchers composed of Dr. Stephanie Rogus, Meg Long, Dr. Lois Stanford, Dr. Katherine Courtney, and Erica Surova.
