QUARTERLY ECONOMIC OUTLOOK Q1 2021 Quarterly Economic Outlook Q1 2021. The opening months of 2021 have been amongst the most difficult for the Irish economy and society since the onset of COVID-19. Over 650,000 people remain unemployed and a further 310,000 are reliant on wage subsidies, the current restrictions mean that most will remain there well into the secondquarter.

BUSINESS ACKNOWLEDGES GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT ON STATUTORY Ibec, the organisation that represents Irish business, today acknowledged the announcement of details by the Tánaiste of the proposed Statutory Sick Pay Scheme. FIXED TERM CONTRACTS The Protection of Employees Fixed-Term Work Act 2003 forbids any discrimination against workers with fixed-term contracts in a company that employs them. It also prohibits the abuse of workers by using successive fixed-term contracts in place of a permanent contract. In this article we look at case law on the provisions of the Act that employees most often claim contravention of.
