To celebrate International Women’s Day 2021, WOW Women’s Film Club invited Eiko Meredith, the director of Kotatsu Japanese Animation Festival, to hand-pick a selection of animated shorts crafted by up-and-coming female animators working in Japan, and to organise an online Creative Workshop by Japanese BEYOND CORONAVIRUS: THE FUTURE OF MUSEUMS While the coronavirus pandemic has had wide-reaching financial impacts, the museum sector has been particularly badly hit. It is estimated that one in three of these museums will have to downsize to survive, while 13% may have to close down permanently – this would be the closure of over 10,000 museums worldwide. In further bad news, a recent survey in Britain indicated that almost a DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AS A THREAT TO WORLD PUBLIC HEALTH Domestic violence as a threat to world public health. In this webinar, Yuri Morita discussed family violence in Japan, and the lack of adequate legal measures to protect against it or to enable preventative interventions. She highlighted recent severe cases of domestic violence and child abuse during the ongoing pandemic stay-home policy, and DAIWA SCHOLARSHIPS IN JAPANESE STUDIES: GENERAL The Daiwa Scholarships in Japanese Studies, a postgraduate programme to support the study of Japanese Studies in either Japan or the UK, were launched in 2015. He explores the nature of memory through connections created from people and places, both past and present.
