Why and How Educators Teach 9/11. Teaching 9/11 provides a window into creative and probing approaches teachers have taken to introduce the subject of 9/11. Discussion of 9/11 is not a mandatory lesson in most classrooms across the country. However, many educators want to be sure their students learn about this pivotal event so they can participate in our world as knowledgeable and discerning PATRICK MCMAHON, COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER AT THE BILL Patrick McMahon, Communications Officer at the Bill + Melinda Gates Foundation, talked about the importance of showing students the positive aspects of a story before delving into the more difficult aspects which can immediately cause them to shut down. PLAN YOUR VISIT TO THE 9/11 TRIBUTE MUSEUM The 9/11 Tribute Museum allows students to explore the factual events of 9/11, the unprecedented rescue and recovery operations, the rebuilding of Lower Manhattan, the tremendous spirit of resilience and service that arose after the attacks, and how we can grow through volunteerism and acts of kindness in our own communities.
