We promote common-sense approaches that guide people away from trouble and make towns and cities safer places to live. We campaign for better justice that helps people to unlock their potential and move forward to a brighter future. This week there are 77,912 people in prisons and young offender institutions in England and Wales. Reducing thisTHE HOWARD LEAGUE
In 2010 the Howard League for Penal Reform launched its Programme to Reduce Child Arrests, which has helped to reduce child arrests to 71,885 in 2019, a massive reduction from 245,763 in 2010. Every police force in England and Wales has reduced the number of child arrests between 2010 and 2019, with 18 forces achieving reductions of 75 percent

The Howard League has been campaigning for over 150 years and over the course of our history we have celebrated many achievements. In 2010 the Howard League for Penal Reform launched its Programme to Reduce Child Arrests, which has helped to reduce child arrests to 71,885 in 2019, a massive reduction from 245,763 in 2010. Every police force in England and Wales has reduced the number of child arrests between 2010 and 2019, with 18 forces achieving reductions of 75 percent

Books For Prisoners. In November 2013, the Ministry of Justice introduced a blanket ban on loved ones sending in books and other essentials, such as underwear, to prisoners.
