As we age, the supportive tissue layers become thinner, so the upper skin layers sag and become thinner and dryer. We also often have issues with veins that show through thinning skin after forty. FIFTY, NOT FRUMPY: MAY 2013 The risotto with fresh vegetables and seafood proved to be irresistible for most of us. One friend had a biopsy this week, so there was a show of solidarity between all the fellows, thus the band-aides on all their noses. Our friends' son's girlfriend was in town for the weekend, so she joined us too. FIFTY, NOT FRUMPY: JUNE 2013 Safe in our seats at last! It was Mick Fleetwood's birthday! Stevie Nicks at 65 still looks wonderful. Her haunting voice is so unique. Lindsey Buckingham sang, played an amazing solo or two, danced, and never left the stage for the whole concert, which lasted for almost three hours. He has incredible energy! I have helped Mr. Mickey (my photographer and partner in life) move in and get settled in his new home. My old home is still on the market, so I am packing and doing a few projects at my new home. Mr. Mickey treated me to a wonderful weekend away at the Westglow Resort and Spa to celebrate my 60th birthday. I wore a tank top and jeans with flat shoes fortraveling.
The Westglow is situated on the top of a hill overlooking fabulous mountain ranges from everyangle.
We stayed in the Grand Master Suite during this visit. Every elegant room in the mansion is decorated with different fabulous antiques. I turned 60 this year. When I was much younger, I would have considered that a depressing thought. Now that I have arrived, I feel as if my life is just beginning. The difficult training part has been successfully completed, and now I am ready to start enjoying my life. I found the white linen-like jacket on a sidewalk sale rack at Stein Mart last month. It is by Calvin Klein. The Michael Kors jeans were also purchased at Stein Mart last year. The gray tank top is a couple of years old from Chico's. The scarf is by Halston Classic, and I think I got that one at Nordstrom. It is a large chiffon square which I folded on the diagonal to form a long thin scarf. I just draped it around my neck for a pop of color andpattern.
The bag was from Express last year. The shoes are by Circa Joan & David via Saks Off 5th. When I purchase simple basics in solid colors, I find that I can wear them in a variety of ways, and for years to come. This may be the final post on this Fifty, not Frumpy blog site. My webmaster has created a fabulous new website. Included is a shopping cart here where I have added a few items from my closet at a fraction of their original cost, some never used or worn, some gently worn and well cared for. The classic basics in a comfortable crepe fabric are now on sale at the new site and there is a vast selection of scarves. Some women have written to say that they resent me telling them what to wear or how to live. That isn't the case at all. I am merely sharing what has worked so well for me. Several women have also written to say I look a lot older than fifty. Hopefully the new site, SusanAfter60.com will help to clear things up a little. Please visit me there. I freely share what I have learned in the hopes that you will benefitfrom my experience.
Thank you for joining Mr. Mickey and me on this journey through midlife and beyond. The second fifty years are indeed the best!Posted by Susan

After switching to a mostly vegetarian diet in 2011 when I was 54, I quickly lost more than forty pounds which meant I had to buy a whole new wardrobe. That may sound like fun, but after leaving store after store in total frustration, I felt overwhelmed. I started studying current styles and reading lots of articles in an effort to create a timeless wardrobe that would fit well with my busy lifestyle now and in the years to come. This blog was born from those efforts. If I was having such trouble finding appropriate clothing in midlife, perhaps others could benefit from the expensive lessons I have learned. With this blog, I also hope to inspire you to eat more plant-based meals and go on dates for your whole life. As a point of reference, I was born in September of 1956. I am five feet six and a half inches tall and I weigh one hundred andforty-three pounds.
