ABOUT NEW PRINTS
IPCNY’s New Prints Program was created in 2000 as a platform for artists from a wide range of backgrounds creating prints and print-based work. The biannual open-call exhibitions feature work made in the preceding twelve months. Juried by stakeholders in the field, these exhibitions offer snapshots of what artists are contending with in the moment, leading a sense of immediacy to eachEDGE OF VISIBILITY
Edge of Visibility, curated in conjunction with the September-October issue of the journal Art in Print by its editor-in-chief Susan Tallman, focuses on low-visibility strategies in printmaking.With over forty works spanning the 17th century to the present, the exhibition features laborious microengravings and subtle watermarks to evanescent images printed with UV-reactive inks. GLOSSARY OF PRINTMAKING TERMS TOOLS. Acid: A term sometimes used to refer to the corrosive solution in which a metal plate is etched for intaglio printing. The concentration of this bath is precisely measured, as is the period of a plate’s submersion. Baren: Hand tool used to firmly rub the back of the sheet of paper in order to pick up ink from the matrix. Brayer: A roller used to spread ink on a matrix.WATANABE STUDIO LTD
Watanabe Studio originally focused on screenprinting. However, responding to LeWitt's wishes, Watanabe added intaglio by the late 1980s, woodcut in the 1990s, and linocut in 1999.
