ERIK NITSCHE : DESIGN IS HISTORY Erik Nitsche left an unmistakable mark on the world of design in his approximately 60 year career. Leaving almost no field untouched, he worked as an art director, book designer, illustrator, typographer, graphic designer, photographer, advertiser, and packaging designer. ED FELLA : DESIGN IS HISTORY Ed Fella has paid his dues to the design profession. He spent 30 years as a commercial artist in Detroit. During that time he experimented with typography and gave lectures to students at the Cranbrook Academy of Art.The interaction with students inspired him to attend the Academy as a graduate student himself and earn his masters degree. IKKO TANAKA : DESIGN IS HISTORY Ikko Tanaka. Born in Nara, Japan in 1930, Ikko Tanaka created a style of graphic design that fused modernism principles and aesthetics with the Japanese tradition. As a child he studied art and as a young adult he was involved in modern drama and theatrical study groups. In 1963 he formed Tanaka Design Studio where he worked for corporations GYORGY KEPES : DESIGN IS HISTORY György Kepes. Kepes is indeed a man of many faces. In his career he has been a designer, painter, sculptor, filmmaker, teacher and urban camouflage theorist. He has been widely revered for his teaching practices and his book Language of Vision (pictured above) was used as a college textbook for the arts for many years.
