I am originally from Clay county and this is my eleventh year teaching. I joined the Army right after high school, in 1990 and retired from the Army in January 2005. I then went to college at the University of the Cumberlands and graduated in 2008 with a Degree in Middle School education with minors in science and social studies and I acquired a masters of Education from Union College. I feel that Social Studies is the integrated study of the social sciences and humanities and is designed to promote civic competence. Within the school program, social studies provides coordinated, systematic study drawing upon such disciplines as anthropology, archaeology, economics, geography, history, law, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, and sociology, as well as appropriate content from the humanities, mathematics, and natural sciences. The primary purpose of social studies is to help young people develop the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as American citizens.
