Consider again the Cavette II described above. Shifting from the lowest gear, 42/28, up to 42/24 is a 16.8% increase. This percentage comes from the 1.168 ratio between the 28- and 24-tooth rear sprockets. Similarly, shifting from 52/28 to 52/24 also increases thegear by 16.8%.
GUIDE TO STRIPPING BIKES Removing the handlebars from these is easy: unscrew the face plate. Once the bars are removed, screw the face plate back on so it won't get lost, and then proceed to strip the handlebars and remove the stem. "Pinch bolt" stems on the other hand curl around the handlebars and are held together by one, pinch, bolt. ABOUT THE BIKE KITCHEN The Bike Kitchen teaches people of all ages and backgrounds how to repair bicycles. The Bike Kitchen promotes personal development and provides leadership opportunities. Operating as a cooperative shop, we provide AFFORDABLE WAYS TO ACQUIRE AND MAINTAIN A BIKE, encourage re-use and recycling, and work with community groups to get morepeople on bicycles.
Founded in 2003, the Bike Kitchen is a 501(c)(3) non-profit run by volunteers. We provide all the tools and parts you need to fix or build a bicycle. Our staff of volunteer mechanics is available to give advice and answer questions.HOW IT WORKS
Either pay a day-use fee ($6) or become a member ($50-$100 SLIDING SCALE OR VOLUNTEER SIX HOURS). This gives you access to our tools and advice from our volunteer mechanics. We have an inventory of used parts and basic new parts for sale, or you can enter our diggingrights program.
We’re open to all women, transfolks, genderqueer folk, femmes, and other people
who’ve had gender bias, homophobia, or transphobia keep them awayfrom the wrenches!
