ORFORD EBAN PARANG
The Orford Eban Parang is based on the Iban style of parang. The original was shown to me by a member of the forces who had used it exclusively as his jungle tool for 16 years. When I saw it I felt that its compact size and curved cutting edge would be completely suited to our own native woodland environment and have adapted it so it is almost a ‘hybridized billhook’. THE NOMAD « BEN & LOIS ORFORD Introducing our new design the ‘Nomad’ friction folder. This knife has evolved through the need for a UK legal carry knife, that is a non- locking knife with a blade under 3″ in length. We wanted to design a friction folder influenced by the classic design of our Woodlander knife with a shapely full sized handle and a blade with a classic Scandi grind so that it could be used for NORDIC CARVER « BEN & LOIS ORFORD The Nordic Carver axe is the latest product in our range. This axe has been designed with strong Viking and traditional Scandinavian influences with a modern twist. We wanted to design a compact craft axe with great cutting ability, a comfortable handle and a good slicing blade shape. Having used lots of different axes over the years we came up with our own version of a carving axe. Lois has been working as a full time green woodworker and leather worker for over eight years now and had been studying the craft on a part time basis for over twelve. MADE IN THE CRAFT LAB « BEN & LOIS ORFORD The Bushcraft Knives that you see on these pages are made by myself. The designs come from my many years of working with wood and metal. I came into the tool making side of things through the traditional craft of green wood working, pole-lathe turning and woodland crafts. I studied a traditional Green Woodworking apprenticeship for three years in my home county of Herefordshire. CARVING TOOLS « BEN & LOIS ORFORD Carving Tools. These partial tang knives and carving tools are made from 01 tool steel. The carving knives come with the same flat grind as the full tang knives. TRAPPER « BEN & LOIS ORFORD The “Trapper” knife has been designed for the outdoorsman who has a lot of skinning work to do. The designs come from my many years of working with wood and metal. I came into the tool making side of things through the traditional craft of green wood working, pole-lathe turning and woodland crafts. I studied a traditional Green Woodworking apprenticeship for three years in my home county of Herefordshire. POCKET PARANG « BEN & LOIS ORFORD Pocket Parang. Blade length 6″ Handle length 4.5″ Price: from 375. This is a new design called the “Pocket Parang”. It was developed when a few people requested a smaller version of WOODLANDER 4″ « BEN & LOIS ORFORD Woodlander 4″ Classic. This knife is ideal for bushcraft and woodcraft needs. The 4 inch blade is very versatile as you have the length for large carving and cutting tasks as well as fine carving. The Woodlander is the most popular model for this very reason. USEFUL LINKS « BEN & LOIS ORFORD Here are a few of our recommended resources that you may find of interest or of use: Bushcraft Magazine The UK’s first magazine dedicated to Bushcraft and CRAFTSMAN « BEN & LOIS ORFORD The “Craftsman” is a relatively new design for us and has evolved from our own experiences of carving and also through suggestions from fellow whittlers. The Craftsman has a slender blade with the essential flat “Scandi” grind and a comfortable full size handle not too heavily shaped so that a multitude of different carving grasps can beused.
PIXIE « BEN & LOIS ORFORD The Pixie is one of the smallest full tang knives that we make, originally designed with a friend for his daughter to learn to carve with we have found that it is a fantastic little knife to use for woodcraft. The teardrop shaped handle can be used for universal grips and the whole knife can be held like a pencil for engraving work. The very sharp tip is really good for fine detail. INSTAGRAM GALLERIES « BEN & LOIS ORFORD Here you can see some of our latest posts and products that both Ben @craftlabknives and Lois @craftlableather have been working on. Hope you enjoy seeing what we have been doing here at the Craft Lab, many thanks cheers Ben and LoisORFORD EBAN PARANG
THE TREKKER « BEN & LOIS ORFORD The Trekker is our latest design of knife – we wanted to do something we had never done before and make a lightweight skeletonized knife that could be either worn as a simple neck carry or a backup to a large camp knife or parang. This is the smallest full tang knife we make to date with a cutting edge that is 2.25” with an overalllength of 5.75”.
