BACKCOUNTRY PILOT
Conquer the Cassiar, via Texas: An Alaska Travelogue. Two pilots embark on the journey to move a Super Cub from Houston, Texas to its proper new home on the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska. This is the detailed travelogue with every choice and decision laid bare. Read More. 1. CESSNA 205 - BACKCOUNTRY PILOTSEE MORE ON BACKCOUNTRYPILOT.ORG THE LARGEST PRIVATE AIRSTRIP IN IDAHO Re: The largest private airstrip in Idaho. As far as I know, this strip was built by some contractor out of Challis. The owner is a guy named Joe Clark, from Seattle, and who has extensive ties to business folk in Sun Valley. Also, he apparently was an executive with Horizon Air back in the day. COST OF AIRCRAFT OWNERSHIP You then drag a wingtip in the dirt causing $5,000 in damage and make a claim for the repairs. In this situation the insurance company will want to total your airplane because they could pay you out at $75,000, make the $5,000 in repairs, and sell the airplane for $100,000 netting $20,000 for the insurance company. CESSNA 172 HEAVY DUTY NOSEWHEEL NARROWING DOWN THE STOL CHOICES....... Auto fuel STC for the O-320 saves a few extra bucks as well, although E-free mogas is getting harder and harder to find. You can add a bunch of mods to the PA-12 to make it more like a -18 (big tires, extended gear, Borer prop, flaps, etc.), but you are sacrificing speed forSTOL.
NEW LIFE FOR THE 170/172 IO-360 CONVERSION The 210 hp Continental Engine is SMOOTH, SAFE, and RELIABLE. There is no icing in this engine because it is fuel injected; and the intake is above the cylinders. Propeller Options: Of all the conversions on the market our 210 conversion is the best. With the CHEAPEST EASIEST ADSB OUT FOR EXPERIMENTAL? The TT22 control head is small, it’s a mode S transponder, the install was easy, and it was by far the most cost effective solution. If you need a transponder or need to upgrade an old one, this is a very good solution. Aircraft Spruce has this bundle for $2750 USD. PANEL DESIGN SOFTWARE I have the ability, with open source modelling software (CAD-Style) to design and lay-out dimensional correct panel designs. I can render photo real output for preview, and also send .stl files directly to any company with CNC or similar for 3d printing / creation. THOUGHTS ON 182 ENGINE UPGRADE Re: thoughts on 182 engine upgrade. I would completely disagree on the Pponk burning more fuel. It will only burn more fuel if you want to run it harder (go faster, climb steeper, carry more). Running the same speed as 0470 mine will burn less fuel.BACKCOUNTRY PILOT

MAULE M5 - BACKCOUNTRY PILOT The Maule M5 was produced from 1974 to 1983, with approximately 750 built. All came with conventional oleo strut landing gear and Maule tailwheel. Tire sizes ranged from 700-6 to 850-6 tire sizes by type certificate, bigger sizes available through STC and 337. The wing design is an aluminum clad USA 35B modified which evolved with the TIRE GUIDE - BACKCOUNTRY PILOT Because tires rely on high pressure to remain seated properly on the rim, typically about 15 psi is needed. When the pilot applies heavy braking during a landing, if the tire pressure is too low then the tire can slip around the rim. Braking heavily is often necessary when landing in the backcountry. KITFOX ALTERNATIVES? Re: Kitfox alternatives? The 85 or 100 HP Taylorcraft is a larger, safer, more well engineered airplane, with several advantages and a few disadvantages compared to the Kitfox. and one HUGE advantage in the back country. But T-crafts are in use by real back country typesin
WHAT IS THE BEST BACKCOUNTRY PLANE? It entirely depends on your mission, budget, experience. For most people, the best backcountry plane is a Cessna 182 with a Sportsman STOL kit and 1000 gallons of gas through it. akschu offline. Posts: 424. Joined: Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:13 pm. TALK FLOATS WITH ME (C-180) Looking for advise on amphibious floats for a 1969 Cessna 180Plane will be getting either a 0-470-50 or 0-520 mounted up front.Lookin for peoples experience with specific types of floats.I understand the benefits of straight floats and weight savings PA-12, GOOD BAD AND UGLY Re: PA-12, good bad and ugly. PA-12's are wide and pretty comfortable, but tougher to get in and out of with the door post being so far back from the fixed pilot's seat. (and not as easy to hand prop if it still has the stock forward hinged door - compared to a modified clamshell or overhead hinge point with gas strut. IDENTIFYING CORROSION IN A LYCOMING THAT HAS SAT IDLE Identifying Corrosion in a Lycoming that has sat idle. Let's say there is an O360A1A on a desirable plane, but it hasn't been flown much in recent history. 625 hours since 2002, 80 hours since 2011. That's 60 hrs/year 2002-2011, 10hrs/year since then. This time was exclusively in the summer, and it sat not flying every winter in Fairbanks. SCHOOL ME ON THE CONTINENTAL IO-360 Trying to dig up some info on the IO-360. I'm getting the cart way ahead of the horse but I'm thinking it might work for me on a Bearhawk. I like the idea of fuel injection, with 8.5:1 compression it could run mogas if I can figure a way around the vapor lock issue, 82" C203 prop is approved for it and seems to be readily available usedoff O470 182s.
