On Pentecost Sunday 1606, the Portuguese navigator Pedro Ferdinand de Quiros claimed the “unknown south land” for Christ, Pope Clement VIII and King Philip III of Spain and called it the “land of the Holy Spirit.” HOMILY NOTES: TWELTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME YEAR B, 20 Lectionary readings First reading: Ezekiel 17:22-24 Responsorial psalm: Ps 91(92):2-3, 13-16 Second reading: 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 Gospel: Mark 4:26-34 Link to readings. Today’s dramatic First Reading comes from that part of the Book of Job (38:1, 8-11) where God, refusing to answer Job’s questions, withdraws more and more deeply into mystery.God puts to Job a series of questions that TRUTH-TELLING AND THE PLENARY COUNCIL ‘Prioritising’ the question of ‘how the Church can empower First Peoples’ will mean including it among four major issues that the Council must address if it is to have any credibility both within itself and in Australian society as a whole. OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD When we experience trauma in our lives we desire to be healed. We want the resurrection. But what of Holy Saturday? I have come to know the vigil at Christ’s tomb before the resurrection as a sacred space of healing, safety, and intimacy with God.
