Winemaking is an Amana tradition and when we moved to Iowa it became apparent that we would need to make wine out of fruit instead of grapes. Rhubarb was plentiful and served a dual purpose. We will help you find a wine that is perfect for your palette. Our wines are handcrafted about 10 miles NE of the Amana Colonies in Iowa’s rolling hills at Cedar Ridge Vineyards. Amana Colonies Trails. The Kolonieweg, or Colony Way, is a 3.1-mile trail connecting the villages of Amana and Middle Amana. Most of the trail is paved, but a small portion is gravel. HISTORY OF THE SEVEN VILLAGES Six villages were established, a mile or two apart, across a river valley tract of some 26,000 acres – Amana, East Amana, West Amana, South Amana, High Amana, and Middle Amana.
