There’s a narrow range of careers that match you really well, and which will let you be happy and productive, while most won’t bea good fit.
HOW USEFUL IS LONG-TERM CAREER PLANNING? In a nutshell. We find it useful to break career plans into two parts: long-term options and next steps. Your long-term options are the global problems and broad career paths you aim to work on over the next 5 to 25 years. Your next step is what you’ll do over the next couple of years to get there. How much to plan is a matter of balance. RESEARCH QUESTIONS THAT COULD HAVE A BIG SOCIAL IMPACT What are these lists based on? You can use the skills you gain to help positively shape the development of artificial intelligence, apply machine learning techniques to other pressing global problems, or, as a fall-back, earn money and donate it to highly effectivecharities.
WHY AN ECONOMICS PHD MIGHT BE THE BEST GRAD An economics PhD is one of the most attractive graduate programs: if you get through, you have a high chance of landing a good research job in academia or policy - promising areas for social impact - and you have back-up options in the corporate sector since the skills you learn are in-demand (unlike many PhD programs).
