The Mason City Cemetery Association (MCCA) was organized and established Mason City Cemetery (later named Elmwood), previously a field in the northeast part of the City, and was used as a graveyard. 1869. The first train arrived in Mason City, the McGregor and Missouri River Railway Company. 1870. Population was 1,183. Central Park is located in downtown Mason City and was gift from John Long and George Brentner. The original owners purchased this from the federal government in 1855 and gifted the land to the City in 1874. The Civil War statue was erected in 1884 and refurbished in the late 1990s.
