It's been a long time since "Friday." Remember "Friday," the viral 2011 music video where a teenage girl

named Rebecca Black

sings about how much "fun fun fun fun" she's going to have over the

weekend?

Well, that girl is all grown up now and reflecting on life since her

viral fame.

Black, 22, took to Instagram on Monday (exactly 9 years since "Friday" was uploaded) to open up about the low self-esteem, depression and bullying she dealt with following the release of her widely-ridiculed song. She said she would've like to talk to her

younger selves.

Black wrote that she wished she could talk to herself at 13, when she was "terribly ashamed of herself and afraid of the world." She said that when she was 15, she felt that she couldn't talk about her depression, and at 17, kids at school threw food at her friends and

her.

Black, who is currently a YouTuber and singer, said she also experienced career setbacks because of "Friday." She wrote that at 19, she had "almost every producer/songwriter tell me they’d never work with me." Black wrote that she's making an effort to think positively and accept that "Friday" does not define her. "you are not defined by any one choice or thing," she added. "time heals and nothing is finite. it’s a process that’s never too late to begin. and so, here we go! this might be a weird thing to post but the honesty feels good if nothing else." Along with the caption, Black shared two photos of herself: One taken recently and one from "Friday." This is not the first time Black has discussed the struggles she faced

following "Friday."

In a 2019 interview with BuzzFeed , she recalled being a "Glee" fan who brought her friends along to star in the music video with a small production crew. "I had no idea what really to expect," Black said. "It felt honestly kind of like we were all going over to my dad's house to do a

project."

Black remembers the video getting 3,000 views in its first month, and then getting millions of hits in the weeks that followed. "Very few people were laughing _with_ me," she said.
