SAN FRANCISCO — Forward Andrew Wiggins will make is Warriors debut Saturday night against the Lakers at Chase Center, a source confirmed with The Mercury News. Acquired in Thursday’s trade with Minnesota that sent D’Angelo Russell, Omari Spellman and Jacob Evans to the Timberwolves, Wiggins landed in San Francisco Friday night. After completing his physical and going through a brief walkthrough, he is expected to be cleared for a 5:30 pm tip-off against the Lakers. Over the next 30 games, Golden State will get a chance to evaluate their newest addition. Wiggins was acquired to play small forward in a starting lineup alongside franchise cornerstones Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. Curry (left hand surgery) is expected to return in March, giving the Warriors 20 or so games to see the two play together. Thompson is expected to miss the season with a tornACL.
In 42 games with the Timberwolves, Wiggins averaged 22.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He will join a revamped roster that saw six rotation players depart. Ky Bowman, converted from his two-way contract to a standard deal, will likely start at point guard. Green (lower back tightness) and newly-signed forward Juan Toscano-Anderson (pelvic contusion) are questionable against theLakers.
