We turned the page on the calendar today to a new month. March can be a mysterious month. It can be cold, snowy and dangerous, or it can be somewhat milder, often building up hopes of an early spring. March is probably my least favorite month of the calendar year except that is the month when Daylight Savings Time begins. With that being said, next Sunday, March 8, is the day to spring forward. Set your clocks ahead before going to bed so you will get to church at the correct time. It would be embarrassing to walk in just as the pastor gives the benediction. Daylight Savings Time supposedly occurs so we may make better use of natural daylight. I don’t know about you, but it takes my natural body clock several days to adjust to the change. This is also a good time to change the battery in your smoke alarms in your home. March can also mean more snowfall — sometimes a significant amount. Which brings me to this: snowplow drivers are out extra-long hours plowing the roadways to make them as safe as possible for travel. Please give them room to do their duty. It is also possible to see crews out patching potholes. Slow down and move over when you approach a construction crew or site. Someone’s loved ones are part of that crew and they don’t want to revive the news that they have beeninjured or worse.

More: Leading Ladies gives Marion area girls a place to belong I’ve written about the flu bug several times in past years and the importance of getting your yearly flu shot. Claiming the shot gives you the flu is a farce. You probably already had a bug in the works when you got the shot. This new worldwide scare with the coronavirus is real folks. Experts claim thoroughly and frequently washing your hands in hot soapy water is the first line of defense. If you should experience any symptoms, seek medical help immediately. Please wear a mask and stay as far away as possible from others in the waiting room. Let me leave you with this Chinese Proverb: “He who takes medicine and neglects to diet wastes the skill of his doctors.” Until next week. Stay healthy. _Brenda Donegan may be reached at brendadonegan55@gmail.com._CONNECTTWEET
