Veterans' Affairs Minister Darren Chester was rushed from Federal Parliament during Scott Morrison's Closing the Gap report on Wednesday after a "brief moment of disorientation". The Victorian MP left the lower house chamber with the support of other MPs with medical backgrounds, including Dr Mike Freelander andDr Katie Allan.

"Thanks everyone for their kind messages of concern and the bipartisan medical team of MPs, Parliament staff and colleagues who've rallied to check on my welfare. "I feel fine and just going to have a few tests done." In a Facebook post, Mr Chester later said: "Don't worry mum, I'm not taking it lightly and will get all the tests done. So far, they've established that I do have a functioning heart but the CT scan which is planned soon could be revealing." "The staff are magnificent and I want to thank them for politely laughing at my dad jokes. "I'm feeling absolutely fine but there's a real risk that I will dieof embarrassment."
Prime Minister Scott Morrison told the House of Representatives prior to Question Time that Mr Chester would be absent for "medicalreasons".
"I'm sure members of the House will be pleased to know that the member is well and he is very appreciative of the attention that was provided to him today," Mr Morrison said. "There was bipartisan medical support provided, Mr Speaker, of which he's most grateful. He said: Please don't send flowers - have a holiday in East Gippsland!" Mr Chester was promoted to federal cabinet last Thursday following the resignations of Nationals senators Bridget McKenzie and Matt Canavan after the sports rorts scandal, which led to a challenge to Michael McCormack's leadership of the party.
