SANDFIRE ROADHOUSE
Sandfire Roadhouse is located about half way between Port Hedland and Broome in the state's north west. Kumarina is located on the Great Northern Highway between Meekatharra and Newman. At one time it was well known as the most expensive fuel stop between Perth and Port Hedland but since the introduction of self-serve 24 hour fuel, the prices has become a lot more reasonable. The roadhouse has a restaurant, tavern and caravan facility availablefor travellers.
SOUTHERN CROSS
Southern Cross was once much more important and full of life than it is today. At one time it was the centre of gold mining activity but as finds were made further east, it slipped back into being more of a sleepy backwater. Other townsites in the Shire include Bodallin, Bullfinch, Ghooli, Koolyanobbing, Marvel Loch, Moorine Rock andYellowdine.

Coomallo Creek is a pleasant rest area located on Brand Highway just south of Jurien Road. Facilities at the rest area include toilets, bins, seats, tables and information shelters. IRONSTONE GULLY FALLS A tributary of the Capel River crosses a red rock formation before tumbling down over the rim of a ledge. The red rock contains iron (as the name suggested) at a concentration of about 38%. There is an area near the falls used by motorhomers and caravanners for overnight stops. Bamboo Creek is a gold mining operation located south east of Port Hedland in the northern Gregory Ranges. It was badly affected by Cyclone Steve in 2000. 434mm of rain fell in just two days. Norring Lake is located south west of Wagin and is accessed via Great Southern Highway and Lime Lake Road (unsealed). Water levels in the lake can vary greatly so the chance to go boating or swimming will depend on both the level and quality of the water. Billiburning Rock. The rock is roughly 30 kilometres north of Beacon and is accessed by a partly unsealed road. The rock is part of Karoun Hill reserve that contains relatively untouched areas of native flora. There are campsites located next to the rock and a toilet is available as well as seats and tables. The reserve is available for caravans, camper trailers etc. and is a large (sometimes) grassy area next to the Blackwood River.
