BENEFIT CHANGES TIMETABLE 2021 April 2021. From April 2021, there will be changes to how the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) recovers Universal Credit advances. The maximum repayment period will go up from 12 months to 24 months. This will mean people have less money taken off their payment every month. The maximum deduction rate will go down from 30% to 25%of

This means that for the first year of your Universal Credit claim you will receive less money. Advances are generally taken back at 25% of your standard allowance. If you are receiving help from a jobcentre to find a job, help may be available to you from the Flexible Support Fund. The Flexible Support Fund (FSF) is a fund offered by local jobcentres at the discretion of Jobcentre Plus advisers. The aim of the fund is to help people claiming unemployment benefits to find ajob.

FULL-TIME STUDENTS AND BENEFITS Most full-time students are not entitled to Income Support. However, you may be entitled to this benefit as a full-time student if you are: A lone parent with a child under five. A lone foster parent of a child under 16. Receiving long-term Incapacity Benefit. A refugee who is learning English to obtain employment. COUNCIL TAX DISCOUNTS Carers. If you are a carer and you live in the same property as the person you care for, you might be able to get a discount on Council Tax. You will need to provide more than 35 hours per week care. The person you care for needs to be getting one of these benefits: • Disability Living Allowance (DLA) care component at the middle or highrate OR.
CAN I GET A SEVERE DISABILITY PREMIUM If someone gets Carer’s Allowance or Carer’s Element of Universal Credit for looking after just one of you, you can still get Severe Disability Premium at the single rate. You must be the only adults in the household. Sometimes you can get Severe Disability Premium even if MY PARTNER IS A PERSON SUBJECT TO IMMIGRATION If your partner is a person subject to immigration control you must claim Universal Credit as a single person. However your partner’s income and capital is taken into account.
