OUR PLAN: THE 21 DAY CALIFORNIA TO MICHIGAN ROAD TRIPSeptember 21, 2017
The Roamer 2
Comments
In case you didn’t know this SoCal family is relocating to Michigan. To kick off our mini retirement The Roamers are heading off on a 21 day cross country road trip. The count down says I only have 9 days and 11 hrs until this adventurestarts.
I get asked why move to Michigan?Michigan.
Family? Check! Snowy Fun? Check! Happiness? Check! In Short: Family and property. Mr. Roamer & Jr’s dad are both from Michigan and most of their families are there too. Moving to Michigan means we can re-plug ourselves into the family. As for property, California is a very prohibitive market. While we could take on a massive loan to buy a home here. We are choosing not to. In Michigan we will be able to afford property and not put ourselves in negative net-worth territory. While we aren’t the first people to move cross country. I’d like to think what we are choosing to do in the middle is a bit more unique. Instead of just jumping in to normal life all over again we decided to squeeze in a mini retirement. A 21 day road trip followed by a month in El Salvador and a month in Ecuador. The first leg of our mini-retirement will be our 3 week cross country road trip. While we could do the trip in 5 days. We are extending the trip to include some fun stops. Continue reading Our plan: The 21 day California to Michigan road trip →Family , Finance

Hey there, if you’re new I am going to be publishing a monthly series where I document our journey to this years One Goal. The goal: TO TAKE A MINI RETIREMENT. Take 4 months off of work to travel internationally to Ecuador and El Salvador and permanently move to a new state, Michigan. The launch date of this adventure is OCTOBER 1, 2017. This is our first time going through the process of planning a mini retirement. By the end of this series I hope to have a tried and true checklist to go by for all our future mini retirements. Wish us luck and follow along on the journey. As of today the count down clock say 6 weeks and 1 days. Holy shiiza! We are in single digits on the weeks. Oh man! I think I am going to transition it to days. Let the final count down begin. So I figured something out lately. It makes perfect sense. Well, atleast I think so.
When people find out about my trip they tend to ask me about my plans for Ecuador or El Salvador. Then when they see me again they ask me how the planning is going. I usually tell them Continue reading Mini Retirement Update: July countdown →Capsule Wardrobe

I first started my capsule wardrobeexperiment
back in
July 2015. I had no idea it would last this long. Today I wrap up 2 years of living with capsule wardrobes. All just 3 months at a time. When I started I didn’t commit myself to doing it forever, but it has been such a good experience that I have kept going. Spring 2017 was the final chapter of year 2. My 8th capsule. Here is what I picked out and wore. Continue reading Capsule 8: Spring & 2 years of capsule wardrobes → Mini Retirement series MINI RETIREMENT UPDATE: JUNE AND GROWING WORRIES.July 14, 2017

JUNE TO DO LIST:
Rolled over tasks.
* Research and apply TSA precheck Global Entry (NOT COMPLETE) I’m going to be honest I think the cost on this is making us procrastinate. Have not made any headway. Also I have never experienced U.S. re-entry, I think this is a nice to have but I don’t have a negative previous experience motivating me. This is not a must, to having our trip. But I think we will be happier if we get it. Continue reading Mini Retirement Update: June and growing worries.→

The mini retirement is just around the corner, so for year 2 of capsule wardrobes, my goal is to get all my clothes to fit into 1 bin and 1 backpack. Fitting our entire life into 2 cars means NO SPACE for superfluous rarely used items. Here were my pick for my 7th capsule wardrobe Winter 2016. You can compare it to last Winter’s Capsule 3 wardrobepicks
and looks. My last winter capsule I had 40 items. This year only 36, I’m slowly learning to do more with less. Continue reading Capsule 7: Winter and a Wrap dress →Family , Mini

WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? OUR TRAVELS SO FARMay 24, 2017 The

Do you know everywhere you’ve been?I’d like to know.
When I was around 5 years old, I flew out of the US to Ecuador where my father was born. I lived there for about 2 years in a house and went to school. Though I was young, the experience is etched in my mind. It’s an important part of my identity and it ignited my desireto travel.
As I grew up, I wanted to fly to El Salvador where my Mom was born. It would happen when I graduated high school, I told myself. Then it turned into after college and then it was just “some day”. Someday I’ll make that dream come true. Today is the day for that dream. Continue reading Where have you been? Our travels so far →POSTS NAVIGATION
