ADULT PROGRAMS
PASSOVER - TIFERETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE It is a widespread custom that the first born fast on the day before Pesach. This commemorates the divine protection of the Israelite firstborn during the final plague in Egypt. However, it is also prohibited to fast during the month of Nisan. There is a standard solution to this paradox: a siyum, a public completion of study of a tractate of the Talmud.SHABBAT SERVICES
Shabbat Services. Unless otherwise noted, Erev Shabbat services begin at 6 p.m. every Friday and Shabbat morning services begin at 9:30 a.m. every Saturday. Saturday morning services are followed by Shabbat Cafe at 11:45 a.m. Rabbi Barton then leads a Hebrew Bible discussion at 12:30 p.m. In addition to our regular Shabbat services, Tifereth ZOOM INFO & HELPFUL COVID-19 LINKS Returning this summer, with a Zoom twist- Hebrew and Talmud classes for a 10 week course! Zoom link information will be given closer to the start of classes. Classes will include–. Beginners Hebrew (6:30-7:30pm) Led by Russell Braman. Biblical Hebrew (6:30-7:30pm) Led by Rabbi Barton. HOLIDAYS - TIFERETH ISRAEL SYNAGOGUE Our outreach to the greater Des Moines community includes open programs to reflect on Tisha B’Av, Yom HaShoah and Kristallnacht. The synagogue works with Dunn’s Funeral Home (Iles) for funeral preparations. They have provided support to the Jewish community of Des Moines with elegance and grace for many years. This Tuesday morning service provides an opportunity for those remembering a loved one to say Mourner’s Kaddish, and allows others simply to begin their day with a spiritual connection.
