THANJAVUR PALACE
The palace in Tanjore is one of the few Maratha palaces in South India. It is home to one of the oldest libraries in Asia. Besides this, the Thanjavur Palace Museum is a host to several ancient treasures while the Durbar Hall is home to vibrant sculpted wonders. THE MUSICAL NOTES OF A CHARIOT The seven steps of this balustrade staircase correspond to the seven musical notes. It is said that walking up and down the stairs or even tapping them produced those melodious notes. A few years back, they were open to a demonstration. However, owing to TIPS TO FOLLOW WHEN VISITING A HINDU TEMPLE Temple at Vellore Fort. At most of these temples, I have noticed a lot of tourists feeling unsure and hesitant about certain norms that they are expected to follow when entering the temples. This is where I though of listing down a few dos and don’ts of visiting the Hindutemples.
PICTURESQUE & SERENE The Varanga Jain Temple in Karnataka. The picturesque setting of this lake temple is what makes it synonymous with the term Varanga Jain Temple in Karnataka. In reality, the Kere Basadi is the youngest of the many Jain temples in this hamlet. Having said that, BRIHADEESWARAR TEMPLE The temple is built using granite and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is in fact, called the Dakshin Meru (South Meru). The famous Sri Vimana of Brihadeeswarar Temple, Tanjore. During the reign of one of the longest-ruling dynasties of India – the Cholas, the temple was called Rajarajeshwaram. WALKING ON THE STREET OF HARMONY IN GEORGETOWN, PENANG St. George’s Church on the Street of Harmony, Penang. This 18th-century church was built by the British East India Company. An Anglican church, this one has a fair bit of connection to India. For one, the supervisor -Captain Smith, who built the church was a colleague of the architect Col. James of Madras Engineers. WHISPERS OF A GHOST TOWN The Pamban-Dhanushkodi express with its 115 passengers was completely eaten by the waves and the entire railway station and tracks submerged. The winds and the waves left nothing intact and spared no one. Just 4 brave souls – radio operators, who clung onto the Pamban bridge for their dear lives were left behind. I have been here at least twice and each time, have found something unique and amazing about this town. The biggest and the most symbolic event that The Residency is known for was the First War of Independence in 1857. The trigger for this began with the Indian Sepoys employed by the British.
