SEAN SPICER WILL SEND YOUR LOVED ONES A CUSTOM VALENTINE'S DAY MESSAGEFOR JUST $199
February 12, 2020
Sean Spicer has the answer to your last-minute Valentine's Dayscramble.
The former White House press secretary is generously offering up custom video messages once priced at $400 for a mere $199 through the end of February. "If you forgot to get someone you love a thoughtful Valentine's Day gift, it's not too late," Spicer shared in an Instagram video posted Tuesday. Just find him on the Cameo app and you'll "get the best way to tell someone you love them (a video from me)" by Friday. While it may seem like a high price from a man who once gave us somewhat daily video messages on the government's dime, Spicer isn't just pocketing your cash. Every dollar will go to The Independence Fund, specifically to help buy wheelchairs for wounded veterans, Spicer says on Cameo. So forget the flowers that will wilt in a week and get a custom message that will hold your loved one's interest for at least as long. _KathrynKrawczyk_
Late Night Tackles 2020 DemocratsEdit
TREVOR NOAH AND STEPHEN COLBERT WONDER IF BLOOMBERG CAN BEAT HIS OWN HISTORY WITH WOMEN, STOP-AND-FRISK2:50 a.m.
"The Democratic primaries are off and running," and after the Nevada caucuses, "the next actual primary is my home state of South Carolina," Stephen Colbert said on Thursday's _Late Show_. "Assuming they don't secede between now and then, South Carolina is holding their primary on Saturday, Feb. 29 — that's leap day, a day that only exists once every four years, just like the South Carolina Democratic Party. The South Carolina electorate is a whole new ballgame for the Dems," because it's not blindingly white like Iowaand New Hampshire.
Joe Biden "is currently leading among black voters, with 27 percent," followed by "former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, with 22 percent,"
Colbert said. "Now that sounds surprising, but Bloomberg has been out there in the African American community, shaking hands and frisking babies." He's also "been accused in several lawsuits of creating an uncomfortable workplace environment for women, but he won't release women who sued him from their nondisclosure agreements," he added. "Oh good, yet another New York billionaire with a questionable history with women. Next we're going to find out about his sons, Merrick and Bloom Jr." There's a photo. It's disturbing. Yes, "the real threat to Bloomberg's campaign is his past,"
Trevor Noah said at _The Daily Show_. "While Bloomberg is out there trying to win the black vote in 2020, he's on tape in 2015 talking about black people like they're crime piñatas.
... Getting caught on tape encouraging police to arrest black people is definitely going to hurt you with black voters. It's the same way you would lose white voters if a tape came out of you saying that pets aren't the same as babies." Bloomberg is trying to explain away his stop-and-frisk comments, but in real life "he encouraged his police department to treat black people like they were all criminals," Noah said. "As much as he tries to move forward and get out of this, reporters won't let this story go. They keep hassling him at events, questioning him about his motives, just trying to find any little thing that he's done wrong. It must so frustrating for him. And to that, I say: Mike Bloomberg, welcome to the world of stop-and-frisk." Noah also compared Bloomberg to Tyrion Lannister in an elaborate 2020 campaign–_Game of Thrones_ analogy. Noah also compared Trump to too much _GoT_, and warned Democrats against ideological purity, between scenes. Watch below. Peter WeberIt wasn't all bad

PASSENGERS SHOWER NEW PARENTS AND JUST-ADOPTED DAUGHTER WITH LOVE ON THEIR 1ST FLIGHT AS A FAMILY2:02 a.m.
Justin Sullivan/Getty Images It was a flight Dustin and Caren Moore will never forget. On Nov. 9, the Moores boarded a Southwest Airlines plane in Colorado, headed to California. They arrived in Colorado as a pair but left as a trio; the Moores were flying home with their newly adopted infant daughter, who was just eight days old. When asked by a flight attendant why they were traveling with such a small baby, the Moores shared a bit of their story, and soon the whole plane knew. A flight attendant named Bobby announced over the intercom that the Moores, who had been trying to start a family for nine years, were flying home with their new daughter. The entire plane "just erupted in cheers and whistles," Dustin told _Good Morning America_. Flight attendants passed out napkins to passengers so they could write down words of encouragement and advice for the new parents. "We were stunned and overwhelmed," Dustin said. Bobby collected about 60 napkins and read some of the messages ("Always tell her you love her!" "Drink lots of wine!") over the intercom, before delivering the stack to Dustin and Caren. Passengers kept coming up to the family to offer their congratulations, which made the trip all the more special. After having a bad day at work last week, Dustin wanted to spread some positivity, and he shared the story of his daughter's first airplane trip on Twitter. "I want people to take away from this that there's a lot more good going on in the world than you might consider," he told _GMA_. _Catherine Garcia_Law And Order

OKLAHOMA TO RESUME EXECUTING DEATH ROW INMATES1:20 a.m.
Mike Simons/Getty Images After a five-year pause, Oklahoma will resume executing inmates ondeath row.
There are 47 inmates on Oklahoma's death row. The state put a hold on lethal injections after several botched executions; in 2014, an inmate flailed on the gurney after being injected with the drugs, and a year later, another inmate was executed with an unapproved drug. During a press conference Thursday, Gov. Kevin Stitt (R), Attorney General Mike Hunter, and Oklahoma Department of Corrections Director Scott Crow said the drugs midazolam, vecuronium bromide, and potassium chloride will be used in the executions, and they have a source for all three. These are the same drugs that were used in the earlier bungled executions. Hunter said the problems were caused by human error, not the drugs. Stitt told reporters he believes "capital punishment is appropriate for the most heinous of crimes, and it is our duty as state officials to obey the laws of the state of Oklahoma by carrying out this somber task." Dale Baich, a federal public defender who is representing several death row prisoners, told _The Associated Press_ that Oklahoma's "history of mistakes and malfeasance reveals a culture of carelessness around executions, and that should give everyone pause. In the next few days, we will advise the federal court and continue with the ongoing litigation challenging the constitutionality of Oklahoma's protocol." _Catherine Garcia_'Mr. Man'

TRUMP MAY BE FINE WITH A GAY PRESIDENT, BUT HIS MEDIA ALLIES SEEM REALLY INTERESTED IN BUTTIGIEG'S SEXUAL ORIENTATION12:40 a.m.
President Trump told Fox News host Geraldo Rivera on Thursday that he, personally, would consider voting for a gay president,
name-checking Pete Buttigieg, "but there would certainly be a group that probably wouldn't." Among that group, evidently, is Rush Limbaugh, the conservative talk-radio icon Trump gave the PresidentialMedal of Freedom to
last week.
"They're sitting there and they're looking at Mayor Pete — a 37-year-old gay guy, mayor of South Bend, loves to kiss his husband on the debate stage," Limbaugh said on his radio show Wednesday. "And they're saying, okay, how's this going to look, a 37-year-old gay guy kissing his husband onstage next to Mr. Man Donald Trump? What's goingto happen there?"
Limbaugh's jab at Buttigieg's sexual orientation "quickly reverberated around right-wing circles," _The Washington Post_ reports.
Several Trump allies used Buttigieg's sexuality to criticize his policies or question his masculinity, while _The Federalist_ insisted Limbaugh's remarks were "not homophobic," just "uncouth" punditry. Several Republican lawmakers declined to comment on Limbaugh's Buttigieg remarks while a handful disagreed with them. "It's a miscalculation as to where the country is at," Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) told _The Associated Press_. "I think the
country is not going to disqualify somebody because of their sexual orientation." _Townhall_ political editor Guy Benson compared Buttigieg's conservative marriage record with Limbaugh and Trump's liberal matrimonial history. Buttigieg's allies hit back at Limbaugh but Buttigieg's campaign did not. It isn't clear how the general electorate will respond to an openly gay, married presidential candidate. When a supporter in Des Moines asked Buttigieg last year what he should tell friends who said America isn't ready for a gay president, Buttigieg said: "Tell your
friends I said 'hi.'" _Peter Weber_drain the swamp

WITH TICKETS COSTING $580,600 PER COUPLE, TRUMP'S SATURDAY FUNDRAISER WILL BE HIS MOST EXPENSIVE YET12:12 a.m.
Don Emmert/AFP via Getty Images If you want to attend President Trump's Saturday night fundraiser in Palm Beach, you'd better sell that old Renoir on the wall, quickly marry an oligarch, sell a kidney to a despot who _really_ needs it, or ask Mike Bloomberg for a loan. The $580,600-per-couple event will be held at the beachfront home of billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, and it's Trump's most expensive fundraising event since he took office, _The Washington Post_ reports. The invitation promises dinner and a photo with Trump, the _Post_ reports, and a Republican National Committee official said 30 or so guests are expected. This event will bring in more than $10 million for Trump's re-election efforts. Since October 2017, Trump has attended at least 48 dinners and roundtable discussions with top Republican donors, the _Post_ reports. Tickets to all of those events started at $50,000. Campaign officials told the _Post_ that while the Secret Service does do background checks, the White House doesn't vet guests. The _Post_ points out that in 2016, Trump called out his fellow candidates for courting wealthy donors, saying: "Somebody gives them money — not anything wrong — just psychologically when they go to that person, they're going to do it. They owe them." RNC spokesman Mike Reed told the _Post_ that Trump is "the most accessible president in history," and "these roundtables, which previous presidents attended as well, are an opportunity for our supporters to get an update on the campaign and his record as president, all things the president discusses publicly all the time." _Catherine Garcia_polls

CBS NEWS POLL: MORE NEW HAMPSHIRE GOP PRIMARY VOTERS HAVE GREATER LOYALTY TO TRUMP THAN THE REPUBLICAN PARTYFebruary 13, 2020
Drew Angerer/Getty Images CBS News conducted a poll of New Hampshire Republicans who voted in Tuesday's primary, and found that a majority feel a greater allegiance to President Trump than theRepublican Party.
The results, released Thursday night, show that 55 percent of primary voters chose Trump versus 39 percent who picked the Republican Party. When asked to share their feelings about the Trump administration, 65 percent said they are "enthusiastic," 24 percent are "satisfied," 6 percent are "dissatisfied," and 5 percent are "angry." Of the primary voters who said they did not want Trump to get the GOP nomination in 2016, 62 percent said they still voted for him in the election. About 1 in 10 cast their ballot on Tuesday for someone other than Trump, with most supporting former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld. When asked about Trump's impeachment, a majority of the Republicans said they think it will help him get re-elected. Read more about thepoll at CBS News.

TRUMP SAYS HE'D VOTE FOR A GAY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATEFebruary 13, 2020
Jim Watson/AFP via Getty Images President Trump would have no problem voting for a gay candidate for president, he told Fox News' Geraldo Rivera on Thursday. Rivera interviewed Trump for his podcast, _Roadkill With Geraldo_, and asked if he believes Americans would vote for a gay man to be president. One of the Democrats in the running this year is Pete Buttigieg, the openly gay former mayor of South Bend, Indiana. "I think so," Trump responded. "I think there would be some that wouldn't, and I wouldn't be among that group, to be honest with you. I think that it doesn't seem to be hurting Pete Buttigieg. But there would certainly be a group that probably wouldn't. But you and I would not be in that group." A Gallup poll released last year found that 76 percent of Americans would vote for a gay or lesbian presidential candidate, NBC Newsreports.
This was a major shift from a few decades ago; in 1978, only 26 percent of respondents told Gallup they would vote for a gay or lesbian candidate. _Catherine Garcia_ See More Speed Reads * More about The Week* Subscribe
