The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is leading a movement against suicide. Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. ALT-POP DUO HYYTS' POP HITS THAT TURN MASCULINITY ON ITS Alt-pop duo HYYTS’ pop hits that turn masculinity on its head. 4th June 2021. We caught up with alt-pop duo, HYYTS (it’s pronounced Heights), to hear how these cheeky chappies from Glasgow are turning up the volume on mental wellbeing through their music. They gave CALM the gossip on creating tunes over Zoom, turning stereotypical ideas of LOST HOURS WALK 2021 When it hurts we talk. When the clocks go back we walk. Time to unite against suicide. We all know the traditional masculine stereotypes. Strong and silent. Never showing our feelings. Leaving the toilet seat up. But things are slowly changing – look around and you can see that masculinity today can take on many shapes and sizes. What ‘makes a man’ today means lots of different things todifferent people.
LET'S TALK ABOUT MALE BODY IMAGE CALM and Instagram found that 21% of 16-40 year old men didn’t feel comfortable talking about their bodies. That’s why we enlisted the help of Jamie Laing, Russell Kane, Leon McKenzie and Stevie Blaine to get talking about theirs and spark a real conversation about male body image. DEPRESSION - CAMPAIGN AGAINST LIVING MISERABLY Try and change “I can’t do this because” to “I can do this because”. Exercise & keep active, particularly outdoors. A 15 minute walk can be enough to make a difference to how you’re feeling. Get creative. Doodle, draw, paint, cook, bake, knit, or write a song/story/poem. Remember, for it BODY IMAGE: STRUGGLING WITH LOOKS Body image can be influenced and distorted by all kinds of things, like how we were brought up, our mood, what we see regularly on the TV and in the media, and loads of other stuff.
