THE CALEDONIAN MINING EXPEDITION COMPANY: PRONE TO HAZARD I open the curtains to see the veld (field) around us ablaze. Flames ten foot high on three sides lick the sky. It’s winter and the entire countryside is a tontledoos (cinderbox). No problem. Like in any other first world country, I will simply call the Fire Dept. THE CALEDONIAN MINING EXPEDITION COMPANY: MAY 2011 None of us spoke very much - silenced by the most luxuriously decadent hot chocolate and staggering Belle Epoque backdrop. Described as being overly 'exuberant' for some tastes (not mine!), one can't help but wonder at the gem tucked away in the Gare de Lyon - which was part of the initiative accompanying L'Exposition Universelle in 1900. THE CALEDONIAN MINING EXPEDITION COMPANY: THE REMAINS OF While none of these images are thematically linked, there is a certain common thread. That of solitude of a quiet, stolen moment. The muted palette of shadowy white, palest grey and silver also set the tranquiltone.

SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28, 2013A WINTER LANDSCAPE
Beautiful, aren't they? By artist, Martin Beek..._
_
_The winter landscapes began in late October. They are often based around Ipsden or Oxfordshire locations, most were drawn in or near to my car on the way to work. They are often bleak open places, influenced by Graham Sutherland's etchings or Rembrandt's small landscapes, they are bisected by the page divide..._Via here
