EXPLORER/ADVENTURER & STORM CHASER GEORGE KOUROUNIS Welcome to the online home of George Kourounis. I'm a global explorer, adventurer and storm chaser. Here you will find many unique images of my incredible journeys from all 7 continents and 75 countries. I've spent years photographing some of Mother Nature's most elusive and dangerous phenomena. I've chased tornadoes, giant hail, dust storms

CRYSTAL CAVE OF GIANTS The Crystal Cave of Giants was accidentally discovered in 2000 by miners working in the silver and lead mine at Naica, Mexico. It lies almost 300 meters (900 feet) below the surface of the Earth and it contains the largest crystals known in the world, by far. ABANDONED TRAIN TUNNELS Abandoned Train Tunnels - New Jersey. Exploring old, long forgotten train tunnels in the New Jersey woods. Oxford Tunnel. This tunnel is 2996 feet long and the tracks were removed back in the 1950's. The really remarkable thing about the Oxford Tunnel was the cold, humid

air.

TORNADO CHASE 2019

May 22 - Okemah & Henryetta, Oklahoma: TORNADO - We started the morning in Norman, OK and the SPC upgraded the risk to a moderate risk for storms and a 15% hatched for tornadoes. We finally decided to head east out of Prague, OK toward Okemah, OK. Here we paused looking west when we saw our first tornado of the day pass just northwest of our

location.

DARVAZA "DOORWAY TO HELL" EXPEDITION The expedition was filmed by a National Geographic TV film crew, and became one episode of the series entitled "Die Trying". We spent about 2 weeks in Turkmenistan, including a MARUM VOLCANO EXPEDITION 2017 Photos from our seven week volcano expedition to Marum crater on Ambrym Island, Vanuatu. This was my longest volcano expedition to date, and in total, I was able to make 5 descents to the bottom, 1200 feet down inside to the lava lake.

OYMYAKON SIBERIA

It had been a dream of mine for years to visit Oymyakon, Siberia. This small town of 500 people is known as the "Pole of Cold" the coldest

town in the world.

SAKURAJIMA VOLCANO, JAPAN While on a TV shoot in Japan, the crew and I spent a few days in the town of Kagoshima, home of the Sakurajima Volcano. Sakurajima erupts pretty much daily, sometimes more than once per day, and has become a part of everyday life in the area. KITUM CAVE - MOUNT ELGON, KENYA - STORM CHASER In one of my crazier adventures, I decided to visit Kitum cave which lies on the slopes of Mount Elgon in Kenya. Kitum cave is well known because this is the only place in the world where elephants go underground into the caves at night to scrape the cave walls for the salts the rocks contain. ANGRY PLANET WITH EXPLORER/STORM CHASER GEORGE KOUROUNIS Eps. Title: Description : 1: Tornadoes: George embarks on his annual pilgrimage to the "Tornado Alley" area of the central U.S. to guide groups of people who want CRYSTAL CAVE OF GIANTS The Crystal Cave of Giants was accidentally discovered in 2000 by miners working in the silver and lead mine at Naica, Mexico. It lies almost 300 meters (900 feet) below the surface of the Earth and it contains the largest crystals known in the world, by far. ARCTIC ROAD TRIP FEB. 2012 What an adventure. Mark Robinson and I went on what can only be described as the "ultimate Canadian winter road trip". We were filming several new episodes of the "Stormhunters" TV series for The Weather Network, and this was the most ambitious of them all. THE WILD HORSES OF SABLE ISLAND I've just returned from a week long trip to the very remote Sable Island, Nova Scotia. It is a tiny strip of sand and grass in the north Atlantic that is best know for its population of wild horses. STORMCHASER.CA MAY 15TH 2003 TORNADO OUTBREAK We intercepted a total of 4 tornadoes from 3 different supercell thunderstorms. At one point, near Stratford, there were 2 tornadoes on the ground at the same time.

ARDOUKOBA VOLCANO

The last eruption of Ardoukoba volcano was in 1978 when a fissure erupted, producing lava flows for a week. We stayed at a wonderful camp on the shore of the Red Sea where we slept in woven mat huts. Near the Kona airport is a lava tube that was formed during that eruption. lava tubes are created when very fluid lava forms an insulating crust on
