INSPECT AND REPAIR STEAM TRAPS Published January 28, 2019 | By qmaxindustries Source: U.S. Department of Energy In steam systems that have not been maintained for 3 to 5 years, between 15% to 30% of the installed steam traps may have failed—thus allowing live steam to escape into the condensate return system. In systems with a regularly scheduled maintenance program, leaking traps should account for less than 5% of the trap population. If your steam distribution system includes more than 500 traps, a steam trap survey will probably reveal significant steam losses.Example
In a plant where the value of steam is $10.00 per thousand pounds ($10.00/1,000 lb), an inspection program indicates that a trap on a 150-pound-per-square-inch-gauge (psig) steam line is stuck open. The trap orifice is 1/8th inch in diameter. The table shows the estimated steam loss as 75.8 pounds per hour (lb/hr). After the failed trap is repaired, annual savings are: Annual Savings = 75.8 lb/hr x 8,760 hr/yr x $10.00/1,000 lb= $6,640
READ THE FULL REPORT (LINK TO PDF) WHAT IS HEAT TRANSFER AND HOW DO DIFFERENT FORMS AFFECT STEAM TRACING? Published August 28, 2018 | By qmaxindustries QMax Industries invites you to learn more about the 3 different types of heat transfer and how they relate steam and heat tracing. This video, which is the first in a series, explains heat transfer in an easy-to-understand whiteboard video. Watch for additional in-depthvideos soon.
DEFINING HEAT TRANSFER AND HOW IT APPLIES TO STEAM TRACING – _QMAX INDUSTRIES, INC. SPECIALIZES IN HIGH-PERFORMANCE HEAT TRACING, FABRICATED EQUIPMENT JACKETING, JACKETED PIPE AND TANK HEATING. And do you also know about QMax CST, our carbon steel tracing product used for hot oil tracing? We have expanded our services and products!! QMAX CST (Carbon Steel Tracing) is SA178 Gr A boiler tubing formed to a 1” x 2.25” rectangle and contoured on one side to match the outside diameter of the process pipe. Specifically designed for long-run hot oil tracing, it can be pre-fabricated to customer specializations / drawings or it can be provided as parts and pieces to be fabricated in the field. We also provide process pipe fabrication so that the QMax CST can be pre-installed on the pipe in our shop instead of the field saving time and money on capital projects. This new capability allows QMax to offer more to our customers to help streamline project execution. QMAX FX (Fabricated Jackets) are custom-made from carbon or stainless steel to fit process equipment such as flanges, nozzles, valves, pumps, meters, strainers and more. QMAX FX jackets are designed to create a “heat shield” effect around the component to eliminate freezing and cold spots around the equipment. These jackets can be fabricated as bolt-on or weld-on.QMAX now
offers JACKETED PIPE specifications, design, stress analysis and fabrication to its customers. From simple carbon steel x carbon steel fabrication to High-Alloy Polymer Jacketed Pipe systems, we’ve got you covered. Get QMax involved early on projects so we can help optimize jacketed pipe design. Our Project Managers and Staff have over 200 combined years of experience in jacketed pipe design and will offer tips that no other company can. QMAX fabrication services utilizes ASME code welders to assure the highest quality fabricated products and systems. QMAX INDUSTRIES, INC. With QMax Industries’ new ViperLine™ Preinsulated Tubing, QMax has you covered between your manifolds and steam tracing/jacketing. The thermally insulated fiberglass material is protected with a flexible flame-resistant polyvinyl chloride jacket and can transfer fluids up to 400° F (204° C), while maintaining an outer jacket temperature of 140° F (60° C). This keeps your system at the temperature you want, while also providing personal protection from steam or hot fluids atthe same time.
QMax ViperLine also comes in a variety of materials to meet your needs, all sizes of copper and stainless tubing, multiple colors and different jacket materials. No
other company offers more steam tracing solutions than QMax Industries. From the steam supply manifold to the condensate return manifold, QMax can offer the entire scope of steam tracing. * Steam Supply Manifolds * Preinsulated Tubing for clean steam transfer * Preinsulated Tubing for low-pressure loss condensate transfer * Condensate Return Manifolds with steam traps designed for steamtracing
* Steam Tracing/Jacketing System (most steam tracing systems options of any company from freeze protection to jacketed pipe) * Steam Tracing Design (supply & return sizing, layout, installationdrawings)

QMAX TANK HEATING SOLUTIONS QMax Tank Heating Solutions are designed to maintain specific process temperatures inside Tanks, Vessels and other containers using internal heating or external heating. QMAX FTS is installed around the outside of a tank or vessel to create a high-performance heating system that can offer more consistent results than plate coils without the head-aches of fully-welded dimple or half-pipe jackets. QMAX QFIN is a bolt-on heating fin that attaches to any size pipe. The highly conductive aluminum material of QFIN increases the heating surface area by 1,000% which allows for greater heating capabilities or decreased total footage of the internal coil. QFin maximizes the heat input of carbon or stainless steel internal heating coils and it is fully removable and replaceable.
