The Hall Today. The Hall today is one of the most beautiful in London in spite of serious damage caused by enemy action in 1940. The Court Room was partially destroyed but was restored by 1957, and the ceiling of the Livery Hall had to be re-erected to a design of 1800. In 2017 The Company created state-of-the-art storage and reading rooms HISTORY AND HERITAGE The History of the Company In 1403 the Mayor and Aldermen of the City of London approved the formation of a fraternity or Guild of Stationers (booksellers who copied and sold manuscript books and writing materials and limners who decorated and illustrated them). The original Charter was lost, probably in the 1666 Fire of London, but you'll all be familiar with the rather splendid 1684 Charter granted by Charles II in 1684, a facsimile of which (see image) hangs in theCourt Room.

An erudite scholar and accomplished diplomat, he is perhaps most widely remembered today as the founder of Oxford's Bodleian Library. The Hall Today. The Hall today is one of the most beautiful in London in spite of serious damage caused by enemy action in 1940. The Court Room was partially destroyed but was restored by 1957, and the ceiling of the Livery Hall had to be re-erected to a design of 1800.
