PASSOVER AND COMMUNION: THE BIG PICTURE It has almost been a week since I last posted. I had an interesting conversation with a young man at work last night. ABRAHAM AND THE VOICE OF THE PRINCIPLESSeptember 11, 2010
As we draw closer to Yom Teruah, the day of blowing or the feast of trumpets, I was reading in Genesis 22:1-19. I caught a couple of insights that I though may be of encouragement to us. In Exodus chapter 3, Moses is standing before the burning bush listening to Yahweh I identify himself as “I Am”, and recieve the instruction from “the voice of the principles to go and tell Pharaoh (the world system) to let Yahweh’s people go. It wasn’t until some time after this that Moses recieved the principles from the same “voice of the principles” he originally met when he encountered the burning bush. This event in Exodus 3 sets up a bit of context for what I want to show us. In Genesis 22, Abraham has been told to take his son Isaac up to the land of Moriah and make a sacrifice to the Yahweh. If we keep this in context, Abraham was asked to do this by the same “voice of the principles” as Moses heard at the burning bush. God spoke to Abraham and said “Abraham!” and Abraham answered “Here I am.” in verse 1. Refering back to Exodus 3, what name did YHWH reveal to Abraham? “I AM”. Continuing in the story, Abraham is ready to kill Isaac as a sacrifice to the Lord but again the same voice (the voice of the principles) calls to him and Abraham replies, “Here I am.” The text describes this voice as coming from heaven. Is this voice coming from the clouds? I don’t think so. I think the “voice of the principles” is coming from inside Abraham. Remember, Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteousness. Abraham, in his obedience and dedication to “I AM” was already following the principles spoken at Mt. Sinai to Moses in Exodus 20. How did he know the principles if they weren’t given yet? May I propose they were written on his heart? Jeremiah 31:33, “I will put my torah within them and write it on their hearts; I will be their God, and they will be my people.” So the voice that Abraham was hearing was not coming from the clouds but from his heart. The principles were already written there because “the voice of the principles” existed even before Abraham or even before the creation of the earth (Revelation 13:8). Remember John 8:57-58, “Why you’re not yet fifty years old,” the Judeans replied, “and you have seen Abraham?” Yeshua said to them, “Yes, indeed! Before Abraham came into being, I AM!” The “I AM” that spoke to Moses at the burning bush spoke the “I AM” in Abraham activating the torah already written on his heart. As we hear “the voice of the principles” (The Shofar, Voice of the Bridegroom) in our hearts may we be found as Abraham, responding in obedience to the One (I AM/ Voice of the Principles/Yeshua) who called us by his glorious light.Leave a Comment »

At Passover, I was asked to prepare and teach a lesson for Shavuot by the leader of the fellowship which I attend every Sabbath. I was honored and said I would be delighted. I spent two weeks doing research and study, by the time last Saturday arrived I was ready. My teaching went really well, everybody was blessed by it. I thought I’d post it here for everybody to read and study. Welcome back to Mount Sinai, welcome back to the upper room…we have arrived at Shavuot with great expectation, faith, while pluming the depths of what our redemption meant for us at Passover. It is, therefore, important to ask four questions to set in context this day where we choose to accept our Bridegroom’s proposal to be his bride.1. Who are we?
• Israel – we wrestle with God striving to understand who He is and his work among us. • 1 Peter 2:9 – “…you are a royal priesthood and a holynation.”
2. Where have we come from? • Redeemed out of Egypt, where bondage and slavery ruled, hard workand toil dominated.
• God’s promise to us was fulfilled…we have seen and experienced his redemptive power displayed in the person of Yeshua Ha Mashiach. 3. Where are we going? • We’re going in the direction of obedience (a compass) to the one who redeemed us. He leads, we follow; His lifestyle we imitate to the best of our ability. 4. For what purpose? • A redeemed lifestyle that will distinguish us from all others to the point of curiosity and even coming to the same faith in our God. • It is on this day our redeemed lifestyle found purpose anddirection.
• It is this day we begin preparing for a wedding. Exodus 19:20 – The LORD came down on Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain; and the LORD called Moses to the top of the mountain, andMoses went up.
1. Moses goes up the mountain to meet YHWH. • “up” – ‘ala – go up, climb, ascend. • The Hebrew word for ‘up’ is where we get the word ‘ola from. • When we lift “up” those around us we assist them in getting up the mountain (us) as Moses went up to meet with YHWH. 2. YHWH came down on the mountain top. • “top” – rosh – head, top, summit, upper part, chief, total, sum, height, front, beginning • Yeshua is the chief, total, and sum of the height, front, and beginning of all Torah. • Isa 28:16 – So this is what the Sovereign Lord says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed (1 Peter 2:6). • Eph 2:20 – built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. • John 1:1 – In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Exodus 19:19: When the sound of the trumpet grew louder and louder, Moses spoke and God answered him with thunder. 1. There are two occurrences here for the word louder however both contain very different meanings. • “louder” – chazaq – to strengthen, prevail, harden, be strong, become strong, be courageous, be firm, grow firm, be resolute,be sore
• Isaiah 42:4 – He will not stop until truth and righteousness prevail throughout the earth. Even distant lands beyond the sea will wait for his instruction. • Hebrews 12:11-13 – All discipline for the moment seems not to be joyful, but sorrowful; yet to those who have been trained by it, afterwards it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness. Therefore, strengthen the hands that are weak and the knees that are feeble, and make straight paths for your feet, so that {the limb} which is lame may not be put out of joint, but rather be healed. • “louder” – ‘uwd – brand, fire brand as pulled from the fire being stirred with it. • Ephesians 4:30 – And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. • 2 Timothy 2:19 – Nevertheless, God’s solid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Everyone who confesses the name of the Lord must turn away from wickedness.” Exodus 19:18: Now Mount Sinai {was} all in smoke because the LORD descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain quaked violently. 1. Furnace – kabash – to subject, subdue, force, keep under, bring into bondage; to subdue, dominate, tread down. 2. Exodus 31:13 – qadash – to consecrate, sanctify, prepare, dedicate, be hallowed, be holy, be sanctified, be separate; distinct from common and profane. 3. Exodus 32:9 – The LORD said to Moses, “I have seen this people, and behold, they are an obstinate people. 4. Ezekiel 11:19 – “And I will give them one heart, and put a new spirit within them. And I will take the heart of stone out of their flesh and give them a heart of flesh…” 5. This mountain (me, you) once was stone but now is flesh. a. Flesh – basar – to bear news, bear tidings, publish, preach, show forth; to gladden with good news, to bear news, to announce (salvation) as good news, preach b. Isaiah 61:1 – The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; c. Posted by serveonegod ------------------------- AMOR – “SPEAK MY REVELATION”May 9, 2009
The Torah portion that all spirit-filled believers are studying today (May 9/09; Iyar 15) is found in Leviticus 21:1 – 24:23. Amor means, to speak, think (non verbally), revelation. I’d like to highlight some key words which I researched in the original language. I hope that these words will bring you greater depth as you study today. First, turn to Leviticus 21:5 yourself for greater clarity. English words: bald, shave, and cuttings BALD – QARACH – MAKE BALD (ST. #7139; TWOT #2069) – LACK OF HAIR ON HEAD MAY RESULT FROM SHAVING, PLUCKING, LEPROSY, OR OTHER NATURAL CAUSES. BALDNESS IS A PICTURE OF MOURNING PARTICULARLY OVER SIN. OFTEN, THE WORD SPEAKS OF GOD’S PEOPLE PUTTING ON SACK CLOTHE AND ASHES SIGNIFYING REPENTANCE (JOB) OR THE DEATH OF A LOVED ONE. THEY WERE NOT TO TAKE ON CANANNITE MOURNING RITUALS AS THEY WERE COMMANDED TO DO AS GOD TOLD THEM. shave – galach – to be bald; figuratively to lay waste (St. #1548) to be bare, smooth, naked. Adam and Eve were naked in the garden of eden before the fall (“plunge”) into sin. Isaiah 7:20 says, “…Adonai will shave – with a razor hired beyond the River, that is, with the king of Ashur – the head and the hair between the legs, and get rid of the beard as well.” In relation to this “razor” awraw means – to be bare, hence to empty, pour out, leave destitute, discover, empty, make naked, spreadself, uncover.
Genesis 24:20 – “She (Rebekah) quickly emptied her jug into the trough, then ran again to the well to draw water, and kept on drawing water for all his camels.” 2 Chronicles 24:11 – “When the box was brought to the king’s officials by the Leviim, and when they saw how much money there was, the king’s secretary and the chief cohen’s official came and emptied the box; then they took it and returning it to its place.” Psalm 141:8 – “For my eyes, Adonai, Adonai, are on you; in you I take refuge; don’t pour out my life.” Isaiah 32:15 – “…till the Spirit is poured out on us from above, and the desert becomes a fertile field, with the fertile field regarded as a forest.” cuttings – sarat (st. #8295; twot 2298) – incise, scratch. The first thing that came to mind for me was this word is awfully close to tzarat used in a previous torah portion. *all verses are quoted from the Complete Jewish Bible by David Stern. * St. means Strong’s Concordance *TWOT means Theological Wordbook of the Old TestamentLeave a Comment »

Posted by serveonegod -------------------------PLOW TO BUILD
March 3, 2009
In Exodus 28, the writer of Exodus is telling us about the breastplate that the priests would wear as they entered the tabernacle. Contained within the breastplate were twelve stones or pearls. These pearls were “engraved” with the names of the twelve tribes so the priests bore them perpetually before the Lord as a memorial. The word “engrave” carries significant connotations in this passage. The word itself in Hebrew means “plow.” Coincidence?? I think not. A well known christian author by the name of Dutch Sheets wrote a book called “Intercessory Prayer,” essentially a guide for how to be an intercessor. In this context the intercessors are the priests perpetually carrying the twelve tribes before the Lord. I recently wrote my final exam for my insurance course. I felt somewhat unprepared as there was material I was unable to cover. This was my weakness. My strength is knowing how to praise and pray before God. I am a pentecostal (priest), you know. I prayed and praised my way into the exam. I did so not only for myself but for my otherclassmates as well.
Referring back to the paragraph previous to the last one I said the word “engrave” means “plow.” Our friend, the Apostle Paul, wrote that we are to put on the armor of God everyday. This armor includes a breastplate (hint hint..). Remembering this morning, there were 13 people in my class including me. That means that I carried “twelve” names in my “breastplate” while praying and praising the Lord just as the priest did. I “plowed” the names before the Lord. As I prayed and praised the names of my classmates were “plowed” before the Lord. Get the picture? It is no coincidence that Jesus while speaking before his disciples to several men says, “He who puts his hand to the ‘plow’ and turns back is fit for the kingdom of God. How does that fit? It fits like this. If I had stopped praying and praising for my classmates I would have taken my hand off the plow, my prayer and praise would have been self-centered. Rabbi Ralph Messer says this, “Everything God has put in us is not for us it is for someone else.” As priests, we are always looking to build up the Kingdom of God and not tear it down. Jesus says, “The Kingdom is neither here it is nor there it is, the Kingdom is within.” Exodus 28; Ephesians 6; Luke 9:62Leave a Comment »

Posted by serveonegod ------------------------- FROM THE BEGINNING…June 22, 2007
The funniest thing occured to me today as I was reading my scriptures, I have never posted just scripture on my blog before. I always give teaching with the scripture. This time I’m leaving the digging (Drash ) in your hands. I will give you one hint. As you read this portion of Scripture, look for the word “beginning” and note how many times it is used and in what context. I’m not going to tell you which scripture it is either. _“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life– the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us– that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete. This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”_ _“My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may be sure that we are in him: whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked. Beloved, I am writing you no new commandment, but an old commandment that you had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word that you have heard. At the same time, it is a new commandment that I am writing to you, which is true in him and in you, because the darkness is passing away and the true light is already shining. Whoever says he is in the light and hates his brother is still in darkness. Whoever loves his brother abides in the light, and in him there is no cause for stumbling. But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded his eyes. I am writing to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven for his name’s sake. I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one. I write to you, children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world–the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions–is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. But you have been anointed by the Holy One, and you all have knowledge. I write to you, not because you do not know the truth, but because you know it, and because no lie is of the truth. Who is the liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, he who denies the Father and the Son. No one who denies the Son has the Father. Whoever confesses the Son has the Father also. Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you too will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that he made to us–eternal life. I write these things to you about those who are trying to deceive you. But the anointing that you received from him abides in you, and you have no need that anyone should teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about everything–and is true and is no lie, just as it has taught you–abide in him. And now, little children, abide in him, so that when he appears we may have confidence and not shrink from him in shame at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you may be sure that everyone who practices righteousness has been born of him.” _4 Comments
| Uncategorized | Permalink Posted by serveonegod ------------------------- A WEEKEND WITH BRAD SCOTT PART 1June 21, 2007
I had the wonderful opportunity and privelege to hear Brad Scott of Wildbranch Ministries (site linked to the right ) last weekend. Brad Scott is a Hebrew linguist who brings out the cultural, biological, and agricultural meanings of biblical Hebrew. He traces the Hebrew word back to its, as he terms it, it’s “mountaintop meaning.” This means taking the word back to its original root form. He draws the truth and spirit life from the Hebrew language. My wife and I and others from our fellowship thoroughly enjoyed Brad’s presentation Friday andSaturday.
On Friday evening, Brad talked about the differences between the Hebrew and Greek mindsets. The Greek mindset is linear and abstract. It focuses on nouns, people, places, and things. The meanings of words according to Greek minds is abstract, there is no action in the meaning. While Hebrew, on the other side of the spectrum, is focused on verbs, action words. Hebrew thinking is outside of the box while Greek thinking is within the box. Brad explained several definitions of common words in Scripture and their meanings in Hebrew. He gave the english word, the greek word, the hebrew word and then the hebrew meaning. By the way, Brad also mentioned that everything in scripture comes from a house, family, and land going all the way back to Genesis1-4.
* grace – charis – chanah – pitch a tent * faith – pistis – aman – drive a stake to support the tent * law -nomos – torah – yarah – cast forth fruit/rain * inherit/heir – kleronomos – nachal – river, stream * word – logos – dabar – to order back to (food) source * church – ekklesia – qahal – call out those sheep * glory – doxa – kavod – liver (heaviest organ) * remember – ma’omai – zakar – to speak or act in behalf * counsel – boule – ‘etzah – ‘etz – tre; (two trees in the garden life or death) * paths – ‘agol – make a circle – make a cycle so consistantly they make a hole in the ground; David spoke of this in Psalm 23…the “paths” of righteousness. He continued to go through the four levels of interpretation that Hebrew uses. The first is P’shat which means stripped someone of clothing, completely, the literal meaning of a verse. The second was Remez which means something you can graphically see. All prophecy is Remez. The third level of Hebrew interpretation is Drash which means searching something out intensely. The last level is Sod which means seed, we need to dig for it, to think and dig for it. Greek thinking is form. It is trained thinking in the box of our culture today. Hebrew thinking is function. What does it do? as to What is it? All of what I’ve written doesn’t even capsulize what Brad said in a few hours. There is so much more that I don’t have notes on. I’ve still got another day to share with you all. Day two is more shocking than day one. Be prepared! I asked Brad after Saturday’s session if I could post about the weekend and he said absolutely. That is for those of you who may worry that I’m claiming I taught all this stuff or that I’m plagiarizing. Shalom everyone! Visit Brad’s website and gleen from his free teaching.12 Comments
