NEW ELECTRIC RATES IN EFFECT Electric rates recently changed, reflecting a series of decisions approved by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in various proceedings. We recognize there is no good time to increase rates, but even less so now when our customers may be struggling due to the COVID pandemic. For several years now, SDG&E has been engaged in rate reform efforts and are actively working to help 'TOP GUN' TO TAKE FLIGHT IN SPRING 2021 Time to take flight. A new 30MW lithium-ion battery energy storage system dubbed Top Gun interconnecting to our existing Miramar substation broke ground in March and is expected to be in service by March 2021. Because of delays with fabrication of the battery containers due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project is a few monthsbehind schedule

HOW NATURAL GAS FUELS SAN DIEGO’S POWER PLANTS One of the newer natural gas power plants in San Diego is the Palomar Energy Center in Escondido, which is owned and operated by SDG&E. Built in 2006, this facility can generate up to 565 megawatts (MW) of power, enough electricity to power 360,000 homes. SDG&E PURCHASED MORE THAN 40 PERCENT IN GOODS & SERVICES Company is redoubling efforts to further grow its supplier diversity program to support local economic recovery. During a year when the economy was devastated by the pandemic, San Diego Gas & Electric sustained small and diverse suppliers by buying more than 40 percent in goods and services from them, according to the company’s newly released 2020 SDG&E NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR 2021 ENVIRONMENTAL This week, we kicked off our 11th annual Environmental Champions grant program – an initiative funded by shareholder dollars to support the work of local nonprofit organizations engaged in wide-ranging environmental protection and education efforts. For the first time, the program has set aside additional funds specifically for a new tree planting initiative. DISCOVERY AND INNOVATION WITH MACHINE LEARNING Program uses artificial intelligence to predict utility asset failures and prevent outages. SDG&E USES MICROGRID TECHNOLOGY TO KEEP CUSTOMERS POWERED Microgrids are a critical component to SDG&E’s efforts to keep customers energized during planned and unplanned outages, including Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS). Microgrids are small electric grids that can operate independently from the larger grid. They often include a small network of users and a distributed energy resource, like solar panels and energy storage, that keeps the SDG&E MAKES FURTHER INVESTMENTS TO UNDERGROUND POWER LINES As part of our ongoing effort to reduce wildfire risk and the impact of Public Safety Power Shutoffs (PSPS) during extreme weather conditions, we are working to expand the underground electric infrastructure in the town of Julian. The project will take place east of the commercial core of downtown Julian along Banner Road (State Route 78) and Cape Horn Avenue, which are currently served by DRONE HELPS STRING CABLE, SAVING HOURS OF WORK You may have heard of drones being used to deliver medical supplies to remote areas that are not easily accessible by other means. Here in our region, drones are being deployed in novel ways as well. Recently, our Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) program used a drone to assist with stringing a new fiber optic cable between two transmission poles in arugged area.
HOW TO LOCATE YOUR CIRCUIT NUMBER AND WHERE YOU FALL IN In the event that the California Independent System Operator (CAISO) calls for rotating outages, SDG&E will communicate to customers about rotating outages, lasting about an hour, through local media, social media and phone calls.
