The Ohio Pen was situated across from North Bank Park, at the corner of Neil Avenue and Spring Street. It sat there for more than 167 years, opening in 1834 and closing in 1974 following extensive damage during a 1968 riot. The pen was knocked down in 1997 to make way for the Arena District project. The largest free outdoor climbing wall in the country, 35 feet high. Climbing is free, but climbers must bring their own ropes and equipment. The climbing wall opens at 9am and closes one hour before the park close. On the second Friday of the month, from March through November, the climbing wall will stay open till midnight.BICENTENNIAL PARK
The Scioto Mile Fountain is the centerpiece of Bicentennial Park. The stunning 15,000-square-foot fountain has more than 1,000 jets of water that take on a multitude of forms and shapes. Dorrian Green is named in honor of Franklinton native Hugh J. Dorrian, a dedicated and unwavering public servant to the residents of Columbus for 52 years. Mr. Dorrian served as the city’s fiscal guardian from 1966 through 2017, first as Columbus City Treasurer and then as Columbus City Auditor. He had a strong hand in the revitalization ofNORTH BANK PARK
The Ohio Pen was situated across from North Bank Park, at the corner of Neil Avenue and Spring Street. It sat there for more than 167 years, opening in 1834 and closing in 1974 following extensive damage during a 1968 riot. The pen was knocked down in 1997 to make way for the Arena District project. SCIOTO GREENWAYS PROJECT The Scioto Greenways project created 33 acres of new parkland and 1.5 miles of multi-use trails that connect the Scioto Mile network of parks. SUMMER CONCERTS, OUTDOOR FESTIVALS, & MORE ENTERTAINMENT ALONG THEMILE
The Scioto Mile is host to a huge number of festivals and special events, especially during the Summer months. In December, there’s WinterFest, a day of music, local food and beer with a focus on giving back. In July, there’s our signature Jazz & Rib Fest, bringing in an impressive schedule of musicians and an equally impressive list of rib burners. And there’s also Rhythm on the River, our summer concert festival. Then you’ve got the Columbus Arts Festival, Columbus Pride Festival and Parade, Festival Latino, Columbus Food Truck Festival, Columbus Science Festival, Red White & Boom! July 4 fireworks and Columbus Blue Jackets Winter Park ice rink, among many, many otherhappenings.
