Chris is busy as a performer, playing violin in the 4Strings Quartet, which he enjoys immensely, working with former colleagues from the Band Service. In June 2017 The Royal Marines Association Concert Band were delighted & honoured to invite Chris to be their new Musical Director. On this appointment Chris writes: “This new challenge isTRAD JAZZ BAND
Trad Jazz Band. The Royal Marines Association (RMA) Traditional Jazz Band is formed from members of the RMA Concert Band, of which the majority are ex Royal Marines Musicians with many years of experience. The musical combination of the RMA Jazz Band is similar to that of other famous Bands, such as Kenny Ball and his Jazz Men and the Acker GUEST DIRECTOR OF MUSIC Guest Director of Music. We are glad to announce that for this one off event, Major Tony Smallwood MA (Dist) PGDip (Adv) BMus (Hons) LRSM RM will join us as a Guest Director of Music for a small concert to take place at the Turner Simms Concert Hall, Southampton on Mon 15th October. This event is a private affair to mark the 150th anniversary THE MOUNTBATTEN FESTIVAL OF MUSIC The Mountbatten Festival of Music (M.F.M) 2017 is being held this weekend at the Royal Albert Hall, this annual event holds significant interest for the Royal Marines Association Concert Band’s musicians, as many of our band members performed at the M.F.M in previous years,whilst serving in

By then 'word' had seeped around the Portsmouth based former RM 'Bandy' grapevine and in May 2006 the first gathering was held at HMS Excellent Whale Island. 30 former RM musicians turned up - to both Paddy's and Ted's delight and considerable relief - and the plan for the Band was explained. During his early career he served in the frigate HMS TROUBRIDGE, the minesweeper HMS YAXHAM, the Royal Yacht BRITANNIA and the destroyer HMS CASSANDRA. By then 'word' had seeped around the Portsmouth based former RM 'Bandy' grapevine and in May 2006 the first gathering was held at HMS Excellent Whale Island. 30 former RM musicians turned up - to both Paddy's and Ted's delight and considerable relief - and the plan for the Band was explained. It was with considerable sadness that the untimely death of Hedley Lock (Musn, RMB 3452), the RMA Concert Band's euphonium player and one of the band's key personalities was announced on April 6th 2009. WELCOME AND THANK YOU FOR VISITING THE ROYAL MARINES ASSOCIATION CONCERT BAND WEBSITE. Since our very first public performance at the Royal Marines Commando Training Centre in Lympstone Devon in September of 2006, we have been actively engaged in performing at least two concerts a month. In this time we have gained a considerable following wherever we play, and have since become one of the most sought after military bands in thecountry!
Lt Col Chris Davis OBE BA MMus DMA LRAM RM is the Band’s fourthMusic Director.
Chris had a long and distinguished career in the Royal Marines Band Service between 1975 and 2009 eventually reaching the top appointment in 2002, Principal Director of Music. During his last two years of service he was also the senior Director of Music of the Armed Forces. We were particularly pleased to welcome Chris to our Band not least because in 2005 he was a member of the Corps’ committee which authorised the establishment of the RMA Band chiefly for the benefit of former Royal Marines musicians. He brings to the appointment considerable experience as a talented musician and administrator. Chris’ career summary can be found under ‘About The Band ‘ on this website.
