FROM AMICI TO ’OHANA: THE HAWAIIAN ROOTS OF THE FAMILY The case was again appealed to Hawaii’s Supreme Court and this time, on April 14, 1997, theLDS Church filed an amicus brief 2. In this brief, the Church cited the Proclamation on the Family as evidence of the centrality of tradition marriage in Mormon doctrine and practice for the first time. One of the requirements for filing an amicus DRUNK NURSES AND SCANTILY CLAD MEN Drunk Nurses and Scantily Clad Men. God spoke. Then he was silent. Eight years later, he spoke again. Then, all hell broke loose. Her mother accused her of having “a secret love affair with some ‘low vulgar surgeon (44).’”. Others told her that they had “never known a nurse who was not drunken” and that immoral behavior was THE MORMON HISTORY CONSPIRACY The Mormon History Conspiracy. For generations, the LDS Church has engaged in a well-orchestrated conspiracy to suppress troubling aspects of its history. With the advent of the Internet, however, more and more Mormons are finding these troubling facts and facing a faith crisis. For many, worse than discovering these difficult truths is AN ADVENT REFLECTION ON MARY MAGDALENE The following is a paraphrased summary of a presentation given by Reverend Griffin Phillips as part of a series of Advent Luncheon Speaking Events held at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Danville, Kentucky on December 17, 2018. Griffin is an ordained minister in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and currently serves asthe

RELIEF SOCIETY AND THE PRIESTHOOD Two weeks ago I was asked to give the Monthly Relief Society Lesson on the Leadership Training Broadcast on the Priesthood in the home and then the Relief Society President also asked me to add in how the sisters can come to value Relief Society UNLOCKING TEMPLE SYMBOLISM Unlocking Temple Symbolism. Mormons don’t tend to do symbolism well. This is largely because they grow up in a symbolically arid religious environment where literalism is the order of the day. Scriptures and teachers mean what they say and say what they mean. No interpretationrequired.
IS THE LDS CHURCH IN APOSTASY? I leave the question of whether the LDS Church is in a state of apostasy to wiser heads than mine. The point of this paper, however, is to examine one area in which the LDS Church currently engages in a practice that the LDS Church in former days declared to be a hallmark of apostasy. That area is the use of Church councils to establishdoctrine.

“…Forgiveness should never be taught or framed as a necessary requirement for healing in situations of abuse, profound mistreatment, or exploitation. Instead, a clear and distinctive caveat should be made that in abusive situations in which a person has been victimized and traumatized, the requirement for forgiveness is absolved from the victim’s burden and the primary focus should be on safety and healing, however and whenever that may come organically to thevictim…”

“. . . A whole list of questions remain. Were any professional organizations consulted during the creation of this training? If so, which ones? Why is there STILL a helpline being used and why ON EARTH is it still only for bishops to use? What measures are being taken to address situations where the leader IS the abuser? What is the policy for members to report an abusive leader? . . .” AN OPEN LETTER TO RUSSELL M NELSON by Merlin J.A. Salisbury| Apr 22, 2019 |

A little over five years ago, I could finally be honest about my sexuality. Prior to that, my life was pretty much what one would consider very active and faithful in the LDS church. I went on a mission and served in many leadership callings, solidly focused on living what I thought at the time was God’s will for me.
