NATIONAL MUSEUM OF RACING ANNOUNCES 2021 HALL OF FAME SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Six racehorses, three trainers, and one jockey account for the 10 finalists that will comprise the National Museum of Racing’s 2021 Hall of Fame ballot, as chosen by the Museum’s Hall of Fame Nominating Committee. The finalists are racehorses American Pharoah (first year of eligibility), Blind Luck, Game On Dude, Havre de Grace, Kona Gold, and Rags to RichesR. W. WALDEN
1872-1902. Biography. One of the leading trainers of the 19th century, Robert Wyndham Walden set a standard for American classic victories by saddling the winners of seven editions of the Preakness Stakes. Born in New York City in 1844, Walden was born into a racing family. His father, George C. Walden, and his two brothers, Jeter and JamesLAVA MAN (CA)
Lava Man won three consecutive editions of the Hollywood Gold Cup (2005 through 2007), matching a feat Hall of Famer Native Diver accomplished from 1965 through 1967. He also won back-to-back runnings of the Santa Anita Handicap in 2006 and 2007. “What an amazing honor,” trainer Doug O’Neill said of Lava Man being elected to theHall of Fame.

Secretariat went on to sire 57 stakes winners, including Hall of Fame member and Horse of the Year Lady’s Secret , as well as Risen Star, winner of the Preakness and Belmont. Secretariat’s biggest impact came as a broodmare sire; his maternal grandsons included Storm Cat, A.P. Indy, Summer Squall, Gone West, Chief’s Crown, and Dehere. AMERICAN ECLIPSE (NY) Foaled May 25, 1814, American Eclipse was a son of Duroc out of the *Messenger mare Miller’s Damsel. Continuing to compete as a 6-year-old in 1878, Ten Broeck won a sweepstakes at Lexington in May, defeating his old nemesis Aristides. He met one more challenge, the 5-year-old California mare Mollie McCarthy, in a match race at Churchill on July 4 before a crowd of more than 25,000. The $10,000 purse was the richest event of TenBroeck’s career.
EDWARD D. BROWN
1874-1903. Born into slavery in Kentucky, Edward Dudley Brown developed into an accomplished jockey before becoming one of the top trainers of the 19th century. Trained at Woodburn Stud to be a horseman, Brown was so fast in foot races it was said he could beat Brown Dick, the racehorse who had set the record for three-mile heatsin 1856.

Forego's fourth Woodward victory was the final of his 14 Grade 1 wins. He also won his fourth straight Eclipse Award for Champion Older Male. Forego raced twice as an 8-year-old in 1978, winning once, before he was retired with a career record of 34-9-7 from 57 starts and earnings of $1,938,957. Twenty-four of his wins were in stakes races. NOOR (IRE) | NATIONAL MUSEUM OF RACING AND HALL OF FAME Noor was shipped to Northern California in the fall of 1948, but he did not make his first start in America until late 1949. Noor made six starts that year as a 4-year-old, winning a $3,000 allowance race in his American debut before six straight defeats. Noor, under the guidance of Hall of Fame trainer Burley Parke, was a different horsein 1950.
TEN BROECK (KY)
Continuing to compete as a 6-year-old in 1878, Ten Broeck won a sweepstakes at Lexington in May, defeating his old nemesis Aristides. He met one more challenge, the 5-year-old California mare Mollie McCarthy, in a match race at Churchill on July 4 before a crowd of more than 25,000. The $10,000 purse was the richest event of TenBroeck’s career.
WHIRLAWAY (KY)
Whirlaway’s time stood as the Derby record for 21 years and only three other horses — Hall of Fame members Old Rosebud (1914), Johnstown (1939), and Assault (1946) — have matched Whirlaway’s eight-length Derby victory margin. He began working with horses when he was apprenticed to trainer Tom Jennings, Sr., in the stables of Count de Lagrange as an exercise rider for 1865 English Triple Crown winner Gladiateur. Barbee came to the United States in 1872 specifically to ride for John F. Chamberlain at Monmouth Park.
